galaxynote2createAs I am sure you are aware, Android loves to use yummy sounding dessert and candy names for their significant operating system upgrades. Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 has given way to Jelly Bean 4.1, 4.2 and the upcoming 4.3 OS updates, and the tastily named Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie was recently confirmed to eventually hit the Galaxy Note II smartphone. This according to “insider information” which means that Android 4.2.2 and 4.3 are also headed to the Galaxy Note II handset.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $79.99.

Samsung dedicated SamMobile quotes that one of their inside Samsung sources released the information, and pointed out that Samsung mobile handsets need a requisite RAM memory and processor to handle the Key Lime Pie 5.0 update. While Android 5.0 is definitely some distance out, Android 4.2.2 is the next up in the batting order. No official confirmation from Google has been forthcoming, but Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie is “expected” as early as October of this year.

The Galaxy Note II is a smartphone/tablet with 4G LTE connectivity. The handset is currently available for the extremely mismatched retail price of $19 on contract running on the Sprint 4G LTE system, a price tag usually reserved for feature phones and entry-level handsets. The phone is also available from multiple carriers, and delivers a split screen Multi-Window feature which has been very popular. This feature allows you to split your screen into two separate displays, using them independently or integrating them.

The first device from Samsung to offer Jelly Bean 4.1 Android operating system out-of-the-box, the Galaxy Note II provides a large 5.55 inch display and Corning Gorilla Glass 2 scratch resistance. The multitalented smart stylus S Pen is back again, and enjoys a Super AMOLED screen with capacitive, multitouch gestures and True HD 720 by 1,280 pixel resolution. That screen is laid out in a 16 to 9 aspect ratio for video and movie viewing, with the extended life 3,100 mA battery on the phone delivering up to 15.0 hours of talk time after a full charge.

The hardware package running the show on the Galaxy Note II is a Samsung Exynos 4 (4412) system chip with an Exynos quad core 1.6 GHz central processor. A quad core ARM Mali 400 MP4 graphics processor is also on board, as is 2.0 GB of RAM system memory. The phone also contains a microSD slot for storage expansion and 16 GB of built-in storage space. A Stereo FM radio with RDS is present, as are Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter applications, and the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder provides 1,080P HD resolution video capture.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $79.99.
