No matter how you cut it, the Samsung Galaxy Note has a huge display. With a 5.3 inch screen that is currently the largest in the 4G smartphone marketplace, the handset makes an iPhone look tiny. And even though the Galaxy Note has tons of great features that rank at the top of the 4G mobile market as far as performance goes, when you have the device in your hands, you keep coming back to that big, bright display. Consumer electronics shoppers, as well as industry experts and bloggers, have taken to calling the Galaxy Note a “Phablet”; part phone, part tablet.

Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note starting at $249, which is a $50 savings over the AT&T price tag.

And the reason Samsung made that display large and named the device the “Note” is to take advantage of new handwriting recognition technology. The Samsung Galaxy Note comes with an S-Pen stylus which allows you to write, doodle and draw, as well as access a host of device-specific features integrated into the S-Pen. You can now take photos or screen shots, and write a message on them, or customize them how you see fit before sharing them. And the S-Pen works just like a real ink pen, drawing thicker lines when you apply more pressure.

Obviously, the Samsung Galaxy Note is much larger and heavier than the average 4G handset. Exclusive to the AT&T 4G LTE wireless system, the Galaxy Note delivers Android’s Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box, and measures 5.78 x 3.27 x 0.38 inches (147 x 83 x 10 mm), while weighing 6.45 ounces (183 g). And the 5.30 inch screen is not only large, and also delivers a pixel density at the high end of most 4G smartphone offerings. At 285 pixels per inch, 800 x 1,200 overall pixel resolution is achieved on the Super AMOLED capacitive, multitouch screen. And the display is delivered in up to 16 million unique colors.

A good bit of the weight in the Samsung Galaxy Note is dedicated to the 2500 mAh battery, and it provides 25% better run time from a single charge than the average 4G smartphone, at 10.0 hours. Powering the device is a Qualcomm MSM8660 chip set comprised of a dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion central processor and Adreno 220 graphics processing chip. 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, and 16 GB of onboard storage is built-in. The camera combo on the Galaxy Note includes an 8.0 megapixel camcorder (rear) and 2.0 megapixel chat cam (front). Video capture at 1080P HD resolution is delivered by that rear camcorder, and popular online destinations Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter have been preloaded into the handset.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note starting at $249.
