Earlier this week it was speculated that Verizon is reportedly looking to release a Windows Phone 8 device from Nokia and the news would have pleased the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer that was once at the helm of the industry but has failed in recent times due to its late uptake of the smartphone generation. Moreover, the Windows Phone 7 platform didn’t go down well, especially with the American market that is far more inclined towards the iPhone and Android devices. However, with the upcoming release from Verizon, the company will be even more excited about its expected September 5 launch of the new devices.

Currently Nokia is more focused on marketing its devices and the head of Nokia’s marketing in North America, Ms. Valerie Buckingham is all set to speak at the Ad Age Digital Conference in San Francisco on the 20th of September. It is possible that the new Lumia devices will be announced by then but the marketing track the company is following now is quite interesting. For starters, Nokia is going back to the corporate website to start its branding and marketing by providing critical information there. In addition to the website it is looking at other third party avenues that have a wider reach in a more restricted environment.

The most extensive marketing mechanism is through social networks and Nokia is keeping a close eye on this and it will continue doing so once the device has been released. Next, the company will be trying to lure back old customers who have jumped ship and for that it has to rebuild the brand in North America. In addition, Nokia is also looking out for celebrities who might be using the phone and trying to include them in the marketing campaign. Out of all these, though there are celebrities who surprised the company by featuring its phones in their videos etc, social media seems the best as it will ensure that the right marketing is going on without any false news.

Right now, Nokia has a lot of groundwork to lay if its next generation of phones have to be successful. For now, the fact that Siri on the iPhone answers that the Lumia is indeed the best smartphone is quite significant but the future will be dependent on the company’s ties with network operators, which it is working on now.
