nexus5leakedGoogle is about to have an event that will be showcasing more than one product, some software and the possibility of consumers seeing the company get into the home automation market.  October 14th is the date of the event and for the most part, the product that many have been waiting on is the new Nexus branded smartphone called the Nexus 5, which is made by LG.  Along with the Nexus 5 is the Nexus 10 tablet, Android 4.4 KitKat and the possibility of seeing the Nexus Switch for those of you that are into the home automation.

More information has been leaked via a user’s manual and that suggests that Google will be releasing a 16GB and 32GB model of the Nexus 5, with the larger model coming with a larger battery and a higher price to pay.  According to the leaked information, other than the internal storage option and battery size, the two models will be exactly the same.  Motorola was one company that offered a similar setup with the Droid RAZR line and the MAXX model which came with more storage and one of the largest batteries on the market for $100 more than the original.

The main draw behind the Nexus branded smartphones is the fact that they come without a contract and at a very affordable price.  The Nexus 4 was released for just $199 for the 16GB option, while consumers could pay $50 more for 32GB of internal storage.  The Nexus 5 is going to start at 16GB for $299 and will be $100 more for the 32GB model.  That pricing model is much closer to what we see with Apple and the iPhone.   When the Nexus 5 went through the FCC last month, the tesing indicated that it had a 2,300mAh battery, which is decent.

In comparison, the Droid MAXX and the Galaxy Note 3 feature batteries that are more than 3,200mAh in size.  Rumors suggest that normal sized battery will be the 2,300mAh battery while the 32GB model will come with a battery that provides 3,000mAh of battery life.  Some would think that the size of the 32GB model would have to be larger in order to house the larger battery, but right now information is not suggesting that at all.  The Nexus 5 is expected to be ready to ship by the end of October, or early November.
