After just over six months of availability on the 4G LTE wireless network of Verizon in the United States, the Motorola Droid Ultra is a skinny one penny on contract smartphone available through Amazon. If thin is in when you are shopping for smartphones, then the Droid Ultra 4G deserves your consideration. A large True HD display has been added, as has a 10.0 megapixel main camera with ClearPixel technology, and a customized firmware package which delivers industry acclaimed “always on” Touchless Control.
One of the hallmarks of the slim Motorola Droid Ultra (7.18 mm or 0.28 inches thick) is the specially designed hardware package. Eight total processing cores share the handling of your requests, while also allowing the central processor to focus on your most commonly used applications and commands. This improves overall speed and efficiency, and the Touchless Control feature mentioned above recently received a fun and productive upgrade to its handling of notifications and other important information.
The natural language processing core built into the Motorola Droid Ultra works in conjunction with Google Now. True hands-free operation is provided, allowing you to wake up your smartphone by greeting it with, “Okay, Google Now.” The phone then powers up if it is in standby mode, and is prepared to recognize and perform a multitude of verbal commands. The recent software upgrade to this notifications delivery is accessible through the Google Play Store for over the air download, and any notifications and other important information you need to act on is virtually dictated to you by your Motorola Droid Ultra when you ask it, “What’s Up?”
Your phone then talks to you, alerting you to any notifications you have not previously checked or received, as well as other important information. While the design focus was on making the Motorola Droid Ultra ultra-skinny, the handset is still very durable. A rugged back plate of DuPont Kevlar fiber and display-protecting Gorilla Glass guards against your everyday abuse, and the large 5.0 inch touchscreen offers a resolution of 720 x 1,080 pixels.
Android’s KitKat 4.4.2 operating system version is supported, with the slim smartphone delivering a full 28.0 hours of run time after a full battery charge. 2.0 GB of RAM is on board, as is 16 GB of built-in data storage and a rear facing 2.0 megapixel camera. That shooter is capable of 1,080P HD resolution video recording at 60 frames per second, there is a front facing chat cam also on board the Motorola Droid Ultra 4G camera combo, and NFC wireless support is also included.
