If you own a Motorola Droid Razr MAXX or were planning on purchasing one as soon as the handset receives the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system, we have good news for you. Both Verizon Wireless and Motorola Mobility have confirmed that ICS is in the airwaves and headed towards your handset in the next few days. The rollout began officially on June 22, and when asked which handsets would receive the upgrade first, Motorola only said that “a select number” of users will taste the Ice Cream Sandwich update this week, with more Droid Razr MAXX owners receiving the over the air upgrade “over the coming days.”

The Droid Razr MAXX delivers the maximum amount of talk time from a single battery charge, at 21.5 hours, or 15 hours of video playback. The handset also offers the maximum amount of out-of-the-box storage, with 16 GB of data storage built in and a 16 GB, removable microSD card shipping with the handset. And though that Android smartphone does have a rather healthy, oversized 3,300 mA battery, the device is still slimmer than most 4G smartphone offerings. The Droid Razr MAXX measures a svelte 0.35 inches (8.99 mm) thin.

The display on board the handset runs 4.30 inches, and that Super AMOLED screen supports capacitive, multitouch gestures. Pixel density runs 256 pixels per inch, creating an overall screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. More than 16 million separate colors are used to render visuals, and that screen is protected by an overlay of Corning Gorilla Glass, offering scratch resistance and glare reduction.

Running on Verizon’s 4G LTE system, the Droid Razr MAXX uses a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 microchip package to power the handset. Included is a dual core 1.2 Cortex A9 central processor, and a PowerVR SGX540 chip is also on board, and works exclusively on all graphics processing. 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is present, and the microSD slot also provides microSDHC support.

The Motorola Droid Razr MAXX can function as an entry-level laptop when ported into the optional HD Lapdock 100 accessory, or as a desktop PC and HD multimedia center when connected to the HD Station made specifically for it. Around the back of the handset is an 8.0 megapixel camcorder which provides video capture in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080p HD), and a front facing chat cam also provides video call support. The Droid Razr MAXX 4G currently retails for $99 on contract at select retailers.  You can buy the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx starting at $99.
