droidrazrmaxxhdThe Motorola Droid Razr MAXX HD is an Android smartphone that runs on the Verizon Wireless LTE network in the US. Just this week Verizon announced they are pushing out a software upgrade to the handset, delivering some minor bug fixes and significant performance improvements. Software version 9.16.6.XT926.Verizon.en.US will include a few Google Security Patches, better Wi-Fi connectivity and camera tweaks. The update is an OTA upgrade, and should be visible in your handset’s notifications list soon.

Verizon stated that some data roaming problems have been fixed, and USB connection/disconnection detection has been improved. Wi-Fi connectivity is also better, and the camera upgrades include improved touch to focus, notifications interaction and low light performance. The Droid Razr MAXX HD launched last October, and delivers global ready access to networks in over 205 countries around the world. The handset also delivers a security conscious software suite that includes a remote hard drive wipe, PIN number locking system and government level data encryption.

The phone was most recently spotted at the Amazon Wireless smartphone store online sporting a $99 on contract price tag. The Droid Razr MAXX HD is offered in either black or white, and delivers NFC connectivity out-of-the-box. Slim at 0.37 inches in thickness (9.3 mm), the phone offers a large 4.70 inch True HD display. Resolution runs 720 x 1,280 pixels, delivered at the high end rate of 312 pixels per inch. That screen is also represented in more than 16 million colors, and delivers video out options through both DLNA and microHDMI connections.

The Motorola Droid Razr MAXX HD may deliver the best possible battery performance of any 4G smartphone currently on the market. The large, extended life 3,300 mA cell is capable of a full 13.0 hours of video playback, 8.0 hours of web surfing and a generous 21.0 hours of talk time after a full battery charge. Verizon also claims a single battery charge can offer as many as 8.0 hours/450 miles worth of GPS turn by turn directions and 4,283 “taps, swipes and pinches on the touch screen” from a single battery charge.

In the handset’s hardware package, the system chip is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 model built around a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU, and an Adreno 225 GPU handles all graphics processing. The on board microSD slot can extend the 32 GB of built-in data storage, and 1 GB of LP DDR2 RAM has been pre-installed. Video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution on the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camera, and a front facing chat cam is also built-in.
