To say that a smartphone is fatter than its skinnier twin does not necessarily mean you have a gargantuan handset on your hands. The Motorola Droid Razr 4G was created as the slimmest 4G smartphone in the world, and the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX basically borrowed the svelte design but slapped on an 85% larger battery to improve battery performance. But just because the oversized, extended life 3,300 mA cell was added does not mean the Droid Razr MAXX 4G is fat by anyone’s definition.

The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is on sale now starting at $99.99.

Borrowing the familiar Kevlar and aluminum coated design and clipped corner appearance of its slimmer twin, the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX also benefits from a splash resistant nanocoating on its interior parts, and scratch resistant Gorilla Glass display protection. With a fast dual core processor, large screen and high resolution video capture, the handset has been a flagship device for the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States.

But Motorola has also designed several accessories which accentuate the performance of the Droid Razr MAXX, which delivers the most talk time of any 4G smartphone. The bigger battery on board couples with a built-in proximity sensor for battery conservation, delivering 21.5 hours of talk time or 15 hours of video playback from a single charge. Add the optional Motorola Lapdock 100 accessory, and you at 5.0 hours of run time, as well as transforming the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G handset into a thinner and lighter than average 10.1 inch laptop complete with track pad and full keyboard.

Motorola also designed and in-car GPS vehicle mount for your dashboard or windshield, effectively turning the Droid Razr MAXX 4G into a hands-free, turn by turn, voice activated navigation system. And Motorola offers their optional HD Station for use with the handset. Delivering three USB slots and one microHDMI port, you can effectively create a desktop PC by attaching an HDTV or monitor, keyboard and mouse, or any other USB supported peripherals. The Lapdock and HD Station both employ the WebTop OS for Internet interaction.

Also delivering 32 GB of user accessible data storage out-of-the-box, in the form of 16 GB built in and a removable 16 GB microSD card which ships with the handset, the Droid Razr MAXX 4G delivers the most out-of-the-box storage of any smartphone. Hitting that Verizon network on January 26 of this year, the Droid Razr MAXX measures only 0.35 inches (8.9 mm) in thickness. The 4.30 inch screen delivers 540 x 960 pixel resolution, and the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder offers video capture at 1,080P HD resolution. A dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor joins a PowerVR SGX540 GPU in handling device operations.
