The Motorola Droid Razr M 4G Android smartphone received a yummy treat to finish up 2012. Just in time for the holiday shopping season the Jelly Bean 4.1 Android operating system hit the Droid Razr M. That OS delivers a faster and smoother user experience than the previous Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system, as well as upgrades to the Google Now contextual search and virtual personal assistant. Camera operability has been improved, and several other updates arrive with Jelly Bean 4.1.

Running on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the United States, that handset can also operate on EV-DO, Rev A 3G and CDMA 800/1900 frequencies where 4G LTE is not present. The Chrome for Android browser has been pre-installed, as have popular YouTube and Picasa applications. By stretching the display on the Droid Razr M from side to side and top to bottom, Motorola engineers were able to create a much more compact form factor than other phones with a 4.30 inch display. Accordingly, the Droid Razr M 4G measures 4.82 x 2.40 x 0.33 inches (122.5 x 60.9 x 8.3 mm), and weighs 4.44 ounces (126 g), making it lighter, smaller and more compact than the typical 4G smartphone.
The 4.3 inch qHD Super AMOLED screen delivers 540 x 960 pixel resolution, and DLNA offers video out. That capacitive, multitouch screen offers an above average pixel density at 256 pixels per inch, and the long life battery is 40% more powerful than the cell on the Apple iPhone 5. A generous 20.0 hours of talk time is offered from a single battery charge, with a full 17.0 days of standby battery power. A dual core 1.5 GHz CPU is on board, as is 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 8.0 GB of built-in storage. The built-in microSD slot allows for storage expansion, and the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder offers video capture at 1,080P HD resolution.

I was roped into upgrading after I was given a Sprint “4G” phone (HTC Evo Shift) and that phones microphone died. I am NOT interested in having a computer in my pocket and formerly used a cell phone as a phone. But, I went with the work deal and absolutely LOVED the HTC product. So when I chose to change networks to VZ (not real LTE coverage on Sprint in Denver) I chose the HTC DNA. I got it home and played with it for a day and it was FASTER than my PC. But it was the size of a small tablet. Size matters in a phone and I just couldn’t get over how large the phone was. Make no mistake the HTC NDA is better on paper. But that is why they play the game as they say. Took the HTC back to VZ store and looked at LG Optimus G and ultimately the RAZR line of products. Originally overlooked due to the pink color, I compared all the phones and kept coming back to the RAZR M. IT had Jelly Bean, it did everything the HTC DNA did (less the uber quad processor), but did it with more style. The circles app (can’t believe I am saying it) is superior. The size of the RAZR clinched it and when I learned it came in black I was sold. VZ/RAZR M is the best for me. I have had this phone about a month. Every purchase should feel like this. Sorry HTC NDA – you may look good on paper, but in the real world, most people don’t have freakish giant hands and prefer a solid performing jet setting phone like RAZR M. The marriage of Moto and Google makes this phone. And in Denver the VZ network is easily the best.
