Considering the amount of money and time Motorola spent on advertising for their Droid RAZR 4G Android smartphone, the smartphone shopper awaiting the arrival of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE handset previous to its launch on November 11 could be forgiven for expecting something extra special. And Motorola did not disappoint, delivering the 4G smartphone with the thinnest profile ever. That slim body and clipped-corner design give the handset a very distinct appearance, but no less than the steel, aluminum and Kevlar highlights incorporated into the body of this Gingerbread smartphone.

The Kevlar, steel and aluminum accents definitely lend the device a very unique look, and when combined with the super skinny profile, the handset looks like something out of the future. And rather than being all flash and no function, the feature set on board instantly provides the Motorola Droid RAZR with respectable performance when compared to the top 4G smartphones.

The handset offers a 4.30 inch capacitive multitouch screen which delivers visuals in 16 million colors, and at 540 x 960 pixel resolution. The Super AMOLED display is protected by an overlay of Corning Gorilla Glass which provides scratch resistance. Aside from the thin profile, the handset is very average in size and weight when compared to other 4G smartphones.

One thing Motorola definitely got right was correcting the battery life issues that plague so many skinny handsets. So many times, battery life is the first casualty of a thin design. However, employing battery-saving applications like the proximity sensor, which shuts the handset off when not in use, the Motorola RAZR delivers 50% better run time from a single charge than the average 4G handset. 12.5 hours of talk time and 8 days of standby are delivered from a single charge of the 1780 mAh cell.

Buy the Motorola Droid Razr starting at only $169.99, and if you also activate your mobile hotspot service service, you will receive a free $100 Amazon Gift Card.

On the hardware profile, Motorola chose a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chip set, a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processing unit with a PowerVR SGX540 processor dedicated to handling the graphics processing duties. 1.0 GB of RAM memory joins 16 GB of built-in storage to round out the hardware set. A microSD slot is on board for storage expansion up to 32 GB, and a microUSB port has been built-in to charge the device. A front facing chat cam joins a rear mounted 8.0 megapixel camcorder which provides video capture at 1080P HD resolution. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity options are present, as well as DLNA video out technology.
