The Motorola Droid RAZR was released amidst heavy media blitzes on November 11 on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE wireless network, and follows in the footsteps of the original Motorola  RAZR which stands as their best-selling handset of all time. Only the second Motorola smartphone to land on that wireless platform, the Droid  RAZR 4G Android handset hits the mobile marketplace as the thinnest 4G smartphone of all time. Out-of-the-box the Droid  RAZR arrives with Android’s 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system, and shows up in the familiar candy bar form factor. Overall dimensions run 5.15 x 2.71 x 0.28 inches (130.7 x 68.9 x 7.1 mm), and the handset weighs 4.48 ounces (127 g).

The Razr employs advanced artificial intelligence technology that monitors your behavior and then self-optimizes to deliver a peak performance in the ways that matter most to you.  This feature actually allows you to get 25% more battery life per charge, and enables you to deploy your favorite apps and functionality faster.

Motorola has designed the Droid RAZR with a 4.30 inch Super AMOLED screen which is navigated by capacitive multitouch gestures. Resolution runs 540 x 960 pixels, and images are rendered in 16 million colors. A light sensor has been installed to automatically adjust the display depending on the amount of light hitting the screen, and a proximity sensor is on board and provides auto shut off capability. That display is protected by a thin layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass.

Even though the handset is extremely thin, Motorola has employed battery saving features to get 12.50 hours of talk time off of a single charge of the 1780 mAh cell. The 4G average is 8.0 hours, and standby time runs 8 days. Motorola has included a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chip set, a 1.2 GHz dual core Cortex A9 processor and PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing chip. System memory runs 1.0 GB, and 16 GB of onboard storage is also present. A microSD slot is provided for storage expansion.

On the rear of the handset an 8.0 megapixel camcorder is located, and that rear snapper comes equipped with an LED flash and autofocus capability, capturing video in 1080P HD. The front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam can also place video calls.

The built-in music player on the Motorola Razr filters by artist, album or play list, and a YouTube video player is also on board. The onboard web browser supports HTML and Flash, and a microHDMI port and DLNA wireless technology provide video out options. A microUSB port is built-in, and Bluetooth 4.0 EDR and Wi-Fi (802.11 b, g, n) wireless connectivity options are presented. Messaging is provided through SMS, MMS, Threaded view and Predictive text input formats, and e-mail is accessed through IMAP, POP3, SMTP and Microsoft Exchange.

  1. 8 hours 4g time? That’s why I chose the DROID BIONIC. The razr is extremely sexy looking but my bionic has an extended battery and I am on hour 13 today of full 4g and mild-heavy use and battery is at 60% ;D . I would never trade Bionic for Razr. Who needs a phone with this much power and a dead battery….
