The Motorola Droid Razr 4G Android smartphone had one of the biggest media blitzes of last year accompany its release on November 11, 2011. That handset was designed as the slimmest 4G smartphone ever created, yet even with a super skinny frame, the handset delivers popular high-end features and is packed with respectable hardware. You may recall the commercials online and on your TV showing the razor thin Droid Razr 4G slicing through telephone poles, fire hydrants and everything else it encountered. It made its real-life attempt to mirror those commercials, and effectively sliced through the competition when it landed on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, where it became an immediate bestseller.

The Motorola Droid Razr 4G is on sale now starting at $49.99.

That handset is still exclusive to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, and is currently priced as a bargain basement phone, despite the fact that it delivers a large screen, superior run time, powerful processor and high resolution video capture. The handset is skinny and light compared to other 4G smartphones, measuring 5.15 x 2.71 x 0.28 inches (130.7 x 68.9 x 7.1 mm) and weighing 4.48 ounces (127 g). Originally designed with the Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box, the Droid Razr 4G has since received an over the air upgrade to the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system.

The Super AMOLED screen on the Motorola Droid Razr 4G runs 4.30 inches in size, and more than 16 million individual colors are used to create visual displays. Resolution runs 540 x 960 pixels, and built-in light and proximity sensors automatically adjust for the correct brightness level, and help conserve battery life. That display is protected by a layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass. The 1,780 mA battery on board provides up to 12 hours of talk time from a single charge, and standby time runs approximately 8.5 days.

Motorola chose a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 microchip set to run device operations on the Droid Razr 4G, and that package is centered around a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor. A separate PowerVR SGX540 GPU focuses exclusively on graphics requests, 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is built-in, as is 16 GB of data storage. A built-in microSD slot allows for storage of action, supporting cards up to 32 GB in size.

The camera combo on board the Droid Razr 4G includes a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam and rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder. That rear device records video in 1,080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second, and comes equipped with an LED flash and autofocus. The front facing chat cam provides portrait snapshot capabilities, as well as video call support. Video out is provided by both DLNA wireless and HDMI wired technology.

Buy the Motorola Droid Razr 4G now starting at $49.99.
