The Motorola Droid Razr 4G Android smartphone was a design groundbreaker as the world’s slimmest handset when it was released back in early November of last year, and if forced Motorola’s competitors to focus on making handsets slimmer. The runaway bestseller for the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network was joined by its fatter twin, the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX, in late January of this year, and that phone became a Verizon bestseller as well. And just recently the third-generation Motorola Droid Razr arrived in the form of the M Android smartphone which made its debut on the same 4G LTE network for Verizon. But the original Droid Razr 4G is still a flagship device for Verizon, and with a retail price at about as close to free as you can get on contract, it is tough to beat what the handset delivers for the money.

The Motorola Droid Razr is on sale now starting at 49.99.

The Droid Razr 4G was only the second with a dual core processor on the Verizon 4G LTE system, and it debuted the now familiar DuPont Kevlar and aluminum coated form factor and clipped corner design that teams up with protective Gorilla Glass and nanocoated insides to make for a very rugged and splashproof smartphone. Super thin at only 0.28 inches, or 7.1 mm, the Droid Razr 4G handset measures 5.15 x 2.71 x 0.28 inches (130.7 x 68.9 x 7.1 mm) overall, and weighs 4.48 ounces. The 4.30 inch Super AMOLED capacitive multitouch screen offers visuals in more than 16 million separate colors, and delivers 540 x 960 pixel resolution.

Standard light and proximity sensors on the Motorola Droid Razr 4G provide auto brightness adjustment and battery conservation, and a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor is part of a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 microchip package which includes a graphics specific GPU. 16 GB of storage are built into the handset as well as 1.0 GB of RAM system memory, with a microSD slot built in for storage expansion and accepting cards up to 32 GB in size.

On the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, talk time runs as high as 12.5 hours from a single charge of the 1,780 mA battery on board. The rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder teams up with a front facing 1.3 megapixel VGA quality chat cam in the camera combo. That rear snapper provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second, while the front facing chat cam records video in DVD quality and offers video call support.

Buy the Motorola Droid Razr 4G now starting at 49.99.
