Marketed as “the world’s thinnest smartphone” by Motorola when it debuted back on November 11 in the United States on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, the Droid Razr 4G actually has a lot going for it other than just a super skinny profile. And now the handset is available in multiple chassis colors, Black, Purple, Blue or White, and sells for $99 to $119 on contract at select retailers depending on the color you choose. If you own or are shopping for a super skinny smartphone, you have the Motorola Droid Razr 4G to thank for your wide range of slim choices, because the handset certainly made “thin” the new “in” smartphone feature.

Overall dimensions on the Droid Razr run 5.15 x 2.71 x 0.28 inches (130.7 x 68.9 x 7.1 mm) and the handset weighs a paltry 4.48 ounces (127 g). The 4.30 inch Super AMOLED display is protected against scratching and chipping by an overlay of Corning Gorilla Glass, and the Kevlar and aluminum frame are integrated with that display to provide splash-proof protection. Pixel density runs 255 pixels per inch for an overall screen resolution of 540 x 906 pixels, and the handset employs more than 16 million different colors to create visual displays. Proximity and light sensors help conserve battery life and automatically adjust for the best possible screen brightness.

One of the first handsets to employ a separate chip to handle all graphics processing, thereby making less of a load on the central processor, the Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 microchip package on board the Motorola Droid Razr 4G includes a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 CPU and PowerVR SGX540 GPU. The handset also delivers 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of built-in storage. A microSD slot is built-in, and accepts cards up to 32 GB, and also supports microSDHC technology.

An 8.0 megapixel camcorder is built into the back of the handset, and has a dual LED flash present, as well as an f/2.4 lens. The rear facing camcorder records video in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080P HD) and at 30 frames per second, and delivers autofocus, extra-wide panorama mode, special scenes, a special effects package, white balance, a multishot mode, an image stabilizer and exposure control features. The Droid Razr 4G also offers a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam which captures video at 720 x 480 pixels (DVD quality) and at 120 frames per second. A YouTube video player has been pre-installed, and the on board music player supports all major file formats.  Buy the Motorola Droid Razr starting at $99, and get a free Bluetooth headset with your purchase.
