In terms of LTE coverage in our side of the world, Sprint is still lagging behind Verizon and AT&T with the wireless provider still waiting to get its LTE network fired up later this year. However, this fact did not stop the carrier from adding into its lineup of Android-powered devices two LTE-supporting smartphones in the form of its version of the current Google flagship device, the Samsung galaxy Nexus and the lesser-known LG Viper 4G.

Of course, we’ve all heard about the splash the Samsung Galaxy Nexus made since it got released late last year to coincide with the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The handset has been touted by the more purist of our smartphone-crazed brethren as the best handset in the whole Android ecosystem despite the criticisms about its mediocre camera department. The LG Viper 4G on the other hand is a whole story.

The handset is the first smartphone to roll off of LG’s assembly line to pack support for 4G LTE connectivity. It is just that at this point in time, the LG Viper 4G still can’t show off its capabilities since the LTE network of Sprint is yet to go online for that matter. However, once that gets lit up, expect the handset to join the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus in taking advantage of the ultra-fast mobile internet speeds brought about by the LTE network of Sprint. In addition to that, the LG Viper 4G can also utilize the NFC chip in its chassis just like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus so Google Wallet is just a couple of taps away on the LG handset. Not only that, the LG Viper 4G can also act as a mobile hotspot wherein it can share 3G and 4G LTE (once it goes online, that is) to up to 5 supported devices.

And to make the LG Viper 4G a worthy investment as early as now, an online retailer has dropped the price point of the handset to a mere penny. That’s correct, Sir, with that extra one cent on your pocket, you get to have the LG Viper 4G delivered to your doorstep and get to enjoy all the capabilities it brings to the tablet. That is, after you sign a new two-year agreement with Sprint, which is basically mandatory to take advantage of the handset at its carrier-subsidized price point.

Under the hood, the LG Viper 4G packs a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and this processor works in conjunction with a full gigabyte of RAM to give the handset a smooth operation. The internal memory of the LG Viper 4G comes up to only 4GB but this is expandable through the use of its microSD card slot. In terms of its display, the handset sports a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen panel with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration gives the handset a 5MP shooter at its back panel and a VGA video call camera out front. The handset’s 1700 mAh Li-Ion power pack on the other hand gives the LG Viper 4G up to 7 hours of talk time.  Buy the LG Viper starting at just one penny at select Sprint authorized online retailers.
