lgoptimusf5f7Consumer electronics and appliance manufacturer LG had previously intended to announce the debut of a couple of brand-new smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The MWC is the biggest mobile trade show every year, and while the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada offers some great smartphone announcements every year, it is usually dominated by TVs. The MWC this year no doubt will unveil some important mobile handset technology that will begin changing the industry in 2013 and on into the future, but LG could not wait to announce their line of smartphones which will bridge the gap between the Optimus L and Optimus G lines.

The company announced the Optimus F series ahead of MWC to ensure that their handsets would get the full attention of the press. The MWC is a huge industry event, with literally thousands of products making an appearance. Sometimes a smartphone can get lost in all of that noise, and that is what LG was avoiding when they revealed the mid-level smartphones which will be released this year.

Optimus L handsets are entry-level phones by LG, and the Optimus G trends towards the higher end of the smartphone marketplace. Scheduled to appeal to the customer somewhere in the middle of the mobile market, the Optimus F5 will offer a large 4.3 inch qHD touchscreen display. Resolution will run 540 x 960 pixels, with built-in proximity and light sensors helping to conserve power produced by the 2,150 mA battery on board the handset.

The Optimus F5 will be powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core central processor, and comes packed with 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 8.0 GB of internal storage. Storage expansion is offered by the microSD slot, and the camera combo will include a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam capable of video calls, as well as a rear facing camcorder. That rear snapper will contain a 5.0 megapixel sensor, and captures video in 1,080P HD resolution.

The LG Optimus F7 will be a larger and more powerful handset than the F5, with approximately 20% more battery capacity. That battery runs 2,540 mA, cranking out juice for the 1.5 GHz dual core CPU. The handset doubles the RAM memory of the F5, at 2.0 GB, and the rear camera on the handset will run 8.0 megapixels. The Optimus F7 offers a large 4.7 inch HD 720P IPS display (720×1,280 pixels), and video capture on the rear snapper will run 1,080P HD resolution. LG stated that worldwide rollout and pricing would be revealed in the coming weeks.
