Samsung has finally unveiled its much anticipated phone, the Galaxy S III. The high end processor, the beautiful display and the sheer size have got most of Samsung’s competitors on their toes after its launch. In fact, unveiling this phone provoked LG into releasing its own high-end smartphone in the form of the LG Optimus LTE 2. The talking point of this phone is its stupendously high RAM capacity – hold your breath, it’s a whopping 2GB. LG hopes to divert attention away from the S III launch with this announcement, but given the company’s sketchy performance record, 2 GB RAM might not be enough to convince consumers to buy LG’s usually lag-ridden devices.

As already mentioned, the phone’s features are not the best in comparison to the S III, but the extended RAM will certainly help the phone do moderately well. Android phones have always had a bad reputation when it comes to RAM utilization, and that extra gigabyte on this phone will certainly help in relaxing the load on its processor. However, LG will never be able to follow on the same line of action as Samsung.

This is because when Samsung unveiled its flagship phone, it not only added new features into it but also improved the interface, adding several unique (if gimmicky) features. LG on the other hand has merely added extra hardware to an older device, something which is not immediately apparent to consumers. However, there are a few other features that can add value to the Optimus LTE 2 if not help it compete against Samsung’s Galaxy SIII.

The phone boasts of a 2150mAh battery with the ability to charge itself wirelessly, something that is considered ground-breaking in the opinion of many critics. Disappointingly, the phone is powered by a dual core chipset, which is rather lacklustre considering most flagship devices today come with quad core processors. Other positives include LG’s very own true HD IPS display sporting a resolution of 720p. The large 4.7 inch display provides the perfect platform for pixel density on offer.

These features will surely tempt many consumers into purchasing the phone. Having said that, this device won’t exactly knock Samsung off its position at the summit of the Android pile. If LG can implement a somewhat stock experience on the Optimus LTE 2 it may just be the underrated bestseller of the year, but knowing LG’s usual lack of attention towards user experience, this looks extremely unlikely.

  1. The writer doesn’t seem to be aware of the fact that the dual-core S4 has performed better on nearly all benchmarks than the quad-core Tegra 3. If in doubt, feel free to check the benchamark tests of the S4 version of the HTC One X and compare them to the similar tests done on the Tegra 3 version.
