kindlefirehdxSales during the 2013 holiday season on the Kindle Fire HDX lineup were strong, and it appears that sales after Christmas and entering 2014 have continued to impress. While plenty of Christmas trees covered Kindle Fire HDX 7.0 and 8.9 inch tablets last year, post-Christmas tablet purchasing has seen Amazon rise to 9.4% of the tablet marketplace. Apple iPad tablet share actually slipped 1.3% in the same period, something that probably makes Amazon executives and shareholders happy as the world’s largest online retailer kicks off the new year.

The Kindle Fire HDX is available for immediate shipment starting at $229.

Amazon continues to release its Kindle Fire tablet lineup at prices which run significantly lower than popular choices like the iPad, but that does not mean that the Kindle Fire HDX tablets are under-performers by any stretch of the imagination. The HDX even offers an innovative feature which is not present on any other tablet, by any other manufacturer. Amazon hopes you never have to use the Mayday Button it includes free of charge on its Kindle Fire HDX tablets, but the idea has been well received by the tablet buying public.

Imagine that you received a Kindle Fire HDX tablet as a gift last holiday season, and as with all new devices, you had a couple of questions. If this is the case, you then simply activate the Mayday feature, and a live Amazon representative appears on your display in a small pop-up window. You can then ask whatever questions you need answered, and there is absolutely no charge for this service. For the incredibly busy holiday season Amazon boasted a blazing fast 9 second response time to HDX tablet owners which used the Mayday feature.

The Kindle Fire HDX tablets are currently offered in the two display sizes we mentioned above, and in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB storage sizes. The exclusive HDX display delivers an extremely high pixel density, at 323 ppi on the 7.0 inch model and 339 ppi for the 8.9 inch version, and a perfect 100% sRGB color accuracy. The new Kindle Fire HDX tablets deliver reduced glare compared to the previous model, as well as improved brightness and better viewing in any lighting situation.

They are also powered by a central processor which offers laptop speed, with the powerful quad core Snapdragon 800 processor running the show clocked at an impressive 2.3 GHz. The 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HDX is the lightest big screen tablet, a full 34% lighter than the previous generation at just 13.2 ounces. All-day battery life delivers up to 11 hours of mixed use and 17 hours of reading after a full charge, with 5.1 multichannel surround sound and Dolby Digital Plus audio pumped through dual front facing stereo speakers. You can purchase the Kindle Fire HDX starting at $229.
