A couple of days ago, Acer came out with the announcement that Acer Iconia Tab A500 tablets in US shores will finally get upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich come April 27. However, even before the pegged date came, users of the tablet have reported noticing a notification on their devices about the availability of a software update for the Acer tablet. This seems to be the case as well with the Acer Iconia Tab A100, the smaller sibling of the A500 because users of the 7-incher reported having been able to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich a full 3 days ahead of the scheduled rollout.

As for the Acer Iconia Tab A500, usrs of the tablet have begun seeing notifications as early as two days ahead of schedule which means that the manufacturer didn’t wait around for April 27 to drop but instead rolled out the software update once and for all. And since the update is going via OTA wherein notifications are bound to appear on your tablet to let you know of the update’s availability, a user of the Acer Iconia Tab A500 also has the option of manually checking for its availability by tapping Menu > Settings > About tablet and then tap Check for updates to start taking a lick of that tasty Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Early adopters of Ice Cream Sandwich on the Acer Iconia Tab A500 have reported that most of the stuff associated with the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system are intact but one glaring thing is missing – the Acer ring that was actually a customization that was overlaid on the operating system of the tablet. Aside from cranking up the software version of the Acer Iconia Tab A500 to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, the said software update also comes with a bug fix that takes care of an issue in the tablet. If the notification is still nowhere to be found and manually checking for the update comes up with nothing, just be patient. It will surely turn up one of these days. And while waiting for that, let us get reacquainted with the Acer Iconia Tab A500 by going through the specs sheet of the tablet which we can find below.
