Samsung Galaxy  S II Skyrocket: Since the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich late last year, the only updates with regard to which handset will be getting the update to the latest version of the Android mobile operating system has always come from the manufacturers of these said smartphones. The first US-based carrier to come up with a list of Android-powered smartphones in its lineup getting the jump to Ice Cream Sandwich is Verizon which released the confirmation earlier this month.

AT&T recently followed suit and came out with its own list of smartphones that it will have upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich. Included in this list is the powerful Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G, the wireless provider’s variant of the venerable flagship device of the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer. Sad to say, AT&T did not announce a specific time frame as to when the handset will get its taste of Ice Cream Sandwich but the carrier let it slip that the update will hit the device in the coming months. Hopefully, we don’t have to wait very long because the international version of the Samsung Galaxy  S II already received its tasty Ice cream Sandwich treat a couple of days and the AT&T variant of the device could very well be next in line.

Samsung may have already announced the arrival of ICS on the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G but it really is reassuring to get confirmation from AT&T regarding the update given the influence that a carrier exerts when it comes to the updates that gets rolled out to the devices in its stable. With this confirmation, the Samsung Galaxy  S II Skyrocket 4G’s chances of getting upgraded to ICS is now set in stone and the only thing missing is an ETA. While waiting for that, let us get reacquainted with the components and capabilities of the handset by going through the details of its specs sheet.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G is one of the first “true 4G” devices in the stable of AT&T and this handset made its debut in the shelves of the carrier November when it was released alongside the HTC Vivid. This handset packs support for the 4G LTE network of the wireless provider so it enables you to take advantage of the blazing fast mobile internet speeds it brings about. Internally, the Samsung Galaxy  S II Skyrocket 4G has a QualComm MSM8260 SnapDragon chipset at the helm of its operations while the computing power required by the handset is provided by its dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor and full gigabyte of RAM.

The onboard memory of the handset is pegged at 16GB and this still can be expanded up to 32GB using the device’s dedicated microSD card slot. The SuperAMOLED Plud display of the Samsung Galaxy  S II Skyrocket 4G measures 4.5 inches diagonally while its resolution is pegged at 800 x 480 pixels. The camera department of the handset is at par with other high-end devices where an 8MP shooter reigns supreme at its back panel joined by a 2MP camera out front.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket starting at $99, which is a $100 savings over the AT&T starting price tag.
