As of the moment, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which was released a couple of months back at Google I/O. Since its release, several devices have already gotten the Android 4.1 refresh and these include the Google developer devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus along with other non-pure Google handsets and tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy S III in select territories and the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700. Not only that, other OEMs are also scampering to get their respective devices upgraded to Android’s latest and greatest.

It is nice that as early as now, we see several devices already get a taste of Jelly Bean but what is sad to see is that several capable devices are still stuck in the Gingerbread generation and are still waiting for the time that they get the upgrade that will crank up their software version to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean’s predecessor.

One such device is the Verizon Motorola Droid Bionic wherein users of the device have been waiting for the ICS update to land for the longest time. Worse is the fact that the rollout of the update to the handset has been delayed quite a number of times now. Users of the handset however saw a ray of light a couple of days back when reports came out that Motorola is already undergoing a soak test for the ICS update of the handset.

With the manufacturer conducting the said soak test, we knew that it was only a matter of time before the Motorola Droid Bionic also got its just dessert of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

And that time has finally come.

That’s right, folks! Verizon and Motorola has already started seeding out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to the Motorola Droid Bionic, finally fulfilling the promise they made to users of the handset ages ago. The update will bring new features and upgraded functionality to the Motorola Droid Bionic and will come with treats and goodies such as enhanced notifications window, ability to create folders and other ICS-specific features such as Face Unlock in tow.

The ICS update for the Motorola Droid Bionic is being rolled out via OTA so expect a notification to come up on your handset once the update has already landed on your device. Otherwise, you also have the option to manually check the update by going to Settings > About phone > System updates > Download to get the update process rolling.

Just a reminder, platform updates such as this are usually rolled out in a staggered manner so do not expect all Motorola Droid Bionic handsets to get the ICS update at the same time. If it isn’t available for your device yet, a little patience will go a long way. It will turn up soon enough, don’t you worry.
