In today’s smartphone world, there are only two high-end devices you can get your hands on if you tend to gravitate toward the Windows Phone ecosystem. One is the Lumia 920 from Finnish manufacturer Nokia while the other is the Windows Phone 8X from Taiwanese OEM HTC. Well, we could have said three but since the ATIV S from Korean electronics giant Samsung is still missing in action, we are sticking with the other two mentioned earlier. Both the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC Windows Phone 8X are the flagship devices of their respective manufacturers and as such come with fire-breathing components under their respective hoods.

When Nokia came out with its Lumia line of Windows Phone handsets, the Finnish manufacturer has been praised for the design and aesthetics of these handsets. In fact, the Nokia Lumia 920 just recently bagged the Innovative Handset award from the 2013 Mobile News Awards in London. But what about the other high-end handset in the Windows Phone 8 platform?

Well, HTC is known as one of the more recognizable names in the smartphone industry when it comes to industrial design and you only have to look at the design and aesthetics of the handsets in its stable to know that the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer puts a lot of effort in the design of its devices. and now, all the hard work of the company has finally been rewarded.

As it stands, HTC has been awarded the “red dot award: product design 2013” for its work on the HTC Windows Phone 8X. According to Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the red dot design award and we quote, “HTC’s Windows Phone 8X not only demonstrated an extraordinary design quality, but also showed that design is an integral part of innovative product solutions. We are pleased to award the ‘red dot’ to HTC.

For the uninitiated, the red dot award is given to well-designed products and has been in circulation since 1955. Winners of the award such as the HTC Windows Phone 8X are displayed on the red dot design museum in Germany and are also placed on its online exhibit and in the red dot design yearbook. With the beauty of the design and aesthetics of the HTC Windows Phone 8X, this is one award that it truly deserves.

As for the HTC Windows Phone 8X, the handset has its circuitry built around a QualComm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset which brings into play a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM. The processor and RAM of the handset work together in delivering the computing muscle required by the handset for a flawless performance. The storage space onboard the handset comes up to 16GB while its display is a 4.3-inch Super LCD 2 panel fashioned from Gorilla Glass 2 with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.
