The HTC Rezound 4G Android smartphone that arrived in the United States on November 14 of last year as the first handset there to deliver the popular Beats by Dr. Dre full range audio system just got some good news. Aside from the financially attractive news released a couple of weeks ago that Verizon was dropping the retail price of the HTC Rezound handset to $99 at select Verizon authorized online retailers with a standard new two-year activation and data plan, it looks like Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system may be ready to scoop up a serving of the yummy Android non-fragmentation to the handset as well.

A recently released piece of Verizon internal communications shows that the HTC Rezound ICS operating system testing for compatibility will end as early as May 7. That certainly sounds like ICS will be on its way to that handset soon, but neither Verizon nor Google would confirm a specific launch date for the over the air ICS OS updates.

When the HTC Rezound 4G smartphone arrived late last year, the high end, full range sound system of the Beats Audio software was the driving point of the advertising found on TV and the World Wide Web. The HTC Rezound even ships with a pair of integrated Beats Ear Buds made specifically for the Beats Audio platform.

Actually, as an all-around device, the HTC Rezound deserves consideration as one of the top Android smartphones, and with their new $99 bargain bin price tag can easily be considered one of the top values in a crowded 4G smartphone marketplace. An Adreno 220 graphics chip is on board, and joins 16 GB of onboard storage and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory in the impressive hardware package.

1080P HD video capture at 30 frames per second is provided by the rear facing 8.0 megapixel chat cam, and that device is equipped with a dual LED flash for low light camera operation, as well as autofocus, white balance, ISO control, geo-tagging and special effects.
