The HTC One X 4G Android smartphone hit the AT&T 4G LTE network in the US on May 6 this year. The handset originally delivered the Ice Cream Sandwich version 4.0 Android operating system out-of-the-box, but just a few days ago got the Jelly Bean 4.1 OS as a holiday gift in South America, Europe, and Asia, with an HTC source stating the global rollout has begun, and will be hitting other areas “imminently.” HTC adds their Sense 4.0 user interface and Android overlay to that Jelly Bean OS, and the handset supports standard capacitive, multitouch gestures. Skinny at 0.35 inches (8.9 mm), the handset is also lighter than the typical 4G smartphone at 4.55 ounces (129 g).

The HTC One X 4G was voted the 2012 CTIA Best Smartphone award by the camera and video dedicated consumer electronics web site Videomaker at the CTIA Wireless Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana this year. It was one of the first smartphones to deliver an f/2.0 lens aperture and simultaneous video and image capture in HD resolution, and video capture runs 1,080P HD with the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder on board. A front facing chat cam is also present, offering video call support.

At 4.70 inches, the Super LCD 2 screen is one of the largest in the entire smartphone marketplace, and resolution runs to the high end comparatively, at 720 x 1,280 pixels. That is delivered at a high pixel rate, 312 pixels per inch, and more than 16 million different colors are present on that display. Standard light and proximity sensors offer auto brightness adjustment and battery conservation, and the HTC One X 4G is protected against chipping and scratching by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass.

The hardware package on board the handset revolves around a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 set of microchips, with a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU at its core. An Adreno 225 GPU focuses exclusively on processing all your graphics requests, and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board. The handset also delivers 16 GB of storage built in. The 1,800 mA battery on board the HTC One X 4G delivers 8.50 hours of talk time from a single charge.

The handset also offers the full range Beats Audio sound system as part of its multimedia package, which includes a YouTube video player and built-in music player as well. The 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the back of the HTC One X 4G comes equipped with a built-in LED flash, and is great in low light situations thanks to the back illuminated sensor (BSI). It also offers autofocus, geo-tagging, a high dynamic range mode (HDR), and several other customization features. The One X also offers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box.
