The HTC One X Android 4G smartphone was unveiled way back in January of this year, and the handset that caused quite a stir at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas has finally arrived. Debuting for $199 on contract on the AT&T 4G HSPA+ network, select AT&T authorized online retailers have recently discounted the retail price of the HTC One X to $149 with a standard new two-year activation.

The main features that had showgoers and industry analysts alike going bananas over the most recent Android handset from HTC are Beats Audio and Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 access out-of-the-box, extremely high resolution and pixel density, large screen and super-quick processor.

While other Android handset owners are still waiting on a promised over the air update of their handset’s operating system to the ICS 4.0 OS, the HTC One X 4G delivers the most recent ICS 4.0 version out-of-the-box. And the full range, high-end Beats by Dr. Dre audio application is present in the multimedia package, teaming up with a proprietary YouTube video player. Arriving in typical candy bar form factor as a flat, rectangular slab, the HTC One X is thinner than most 4G handsets at only 0.35 inches (8.99 mm) thick.

The 4.70 inch S–LCD 2 display renders visuals in more than 16 million different colors, and is one of the largest in the entire 4G smartphone marketplace. The pixel density of 312 pixels per inch lies at the extreme high end of all 4G handsets comparatively, as does the 720 x 1280 pixel screen resolution. Overlaying that capacitive, multitouch screen is a glare reducing and scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass.

Talk time from a single charge of the 1,800 mA battery runs an above average 8.50 hours, and standby time sits at 12.6 days. A Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon microchip package is on board the HTC One X, and includes an Adreno 225 chip that handles all graphics duties, allowing the dual core Krait central processor to focus on handling your requests. That Krait CPU has been clocked at an impressive 1.5 GHz. A full 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, and 16 GB of user accessible data storage is built into the handset.

The high resolution 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the rear of the handset offers high-end features such as a Back-illuminated sensor (BSI) and High Dynamic Range mode (HDR), and also delivers autofocus and geo tagging capabilities. That rear camcorder comes equipped with an LED flash for low light camera operation, and records video at 1,080P HD resolution. There is also a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam on board, and Near Frequency Communications (NFC) support is offered out-of-the-box.  Buy the HTC One X starting at $149.
