The HTC Evo 4G smartphone just this past week received an update to the HTC Sense 4.1 Android overlay. Several bug fixes for ICS 4.0 were also included in the upgrade, and it looks like the handset is getting prepped for Jelly Bean 4.1. The smartphone arrived on June 2 of this year on the Sprint wireless network in the US, and Sprint just launched their brand-new 4G LTE US network. The HTC Evo 4G LTE smartphone is one of the first LTE capable devices on the new Sprint system, and the handset arrives on that platform as one of the skinniest smartphones offered today. The Evo 4G LTE measures 5.31 x 2.71 x 0.35 inches (134.8 x 68.9 x 8.9 mm) and weighs 4.73 ounces (134 g).

The HTC Evo 4G is on sale now starting at 79.99.

Providing a built-in kickstand for convenient hands-free viewing of videos and movies, the Evo 4G LTE delivers a super IPS LCD2 capacitive touchscreen that uses more than 16 million separate colors to display visuals. Pixel resolution runs at the high end, at 312 pixels per inch, for an overall display resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. A protective layer of Corning Gorilla Glass overlays the screen. Standard light and proximity sensors are built into the display, providing auto brightness adjustment and battery conservation.

In the hardware package on board the handset, a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon microchip package includes a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor and graphics dedicated Adreno 225 GPU. The HTC Evo 4G LTE smartphone for Sprint comes with 16 GB of storage built in out-of-the-box, and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory. A microSD slot is on board, providing microSDHC support as well, and allowing for cards up to 32 GB in size.

Closet shutterbugs will appreciate the features provided by the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, which records video in stereo sound and at 1,080P HD resolution. That camera also provides simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, and an f/2.0 lens which captures 40% more light than the average smartphone camera.

The camcorder also provides an extensive special effects package, and joins a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam in the camera combo. The HTC Evo 4G LTE smartphone delivers a multimedia package with a built-in music player that sorts by album, artist or play list, a Stereo FM radio with RDS album, song and artist display, the full range Beats Audio sound system and a proprietary YouTube video player.
