htcdroiddnaHTC released the Droid DNA 4G smartphone just in time for the US holiday shopping season in mid November of last year. The main selling point on the handset is its large 5.0 inch display that delivers the best pixel density and display resolution for a 4G smartphone. But the handset also offers a powerful and speedy quad core processor, extra-wide image and video capture on both its front and rear cameras, the Jelly Bean 4.1 Android operating system update and exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement package.

The handset is exclusive to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, and Verizon was just last month named the top wireless service provider in the United States by respected consumer advocate Consumer Reports. The handset is made in a slim form factor, with a rugged polycarbonate unibody. There are also very distinctive red side grills and an ultra-matte finish on the handset, and the screen is laminated seamlessly to help eliminate reflection.

The Beats Audio sound enhancement software includes a 2.5 volt headset amplifier and dedicated speaker amps, and joins a YouTube video player in the handset’s multimedia package. The HTC Droid DNA 4G includes the mobile fantasy game Reign of Amira pre-installed as a way of showing off its quad core processor and Adreno 320 graphics processor, and the handset delivers one of the largest high resolution screens of any smartphone, at 5.0 inches.

That 5.0 inch true HD 1,080 P display delivers an industry-leading 440 pixels over every inch of display space, and employs an edge to edge and side to side layout to maximize display and minimize the size of the handset. The HTC Droid DNA 4G measures 5.55 x 2.78 x 0.38 inches (141 x 70.5 x 9.73 mm) and weighs 4.87 ounces (138 g), making it slim, light and as small as possible for a 4G handset with a 5.0 inch display.

The 5.0 Inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 screen delivers an extremely highly resolute display, at 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. More than 16 million colors are present on that display, which is protected against everyday scratching and chipping by a layer of Gorilla Glass. Battery performance is above average, with 12.6 hours of talk time provided from a single charge. The quad core central processor has been clocked at 1.5 GHz, 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, as is 16.0 GB of built-in storage. The rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder provides video capture at 1,080 P HD resolution, and both it and the front facing 2.1 megapixel chat cam offer extra-wide 88 degree video and image recording.

  1. I love my new phone. Only disturbed by the non-removal bloatware from htc and verizon. do I really have to employ a geek to ROOT my phone to get rid of these dreadful, RAM-sucking apps?
