The Samsung Galaxy S III since hitting the shelves has been the talk of the smartphone town and this is no surprise – after all, the current flagship device of the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer is not only one of the most powerful superphones in the market today, it is also the most popular. We’ve heard reports of how preorders for the handset reached 9 million in just a couple of days after its announcement – a testament to the popularity of the handset. And more recently, Samsung announced that the Samsung Galaxy S III has already broken the 20 million barrier in terms of its sales figures. However, speculations were rampant that the only thing that could stop the Samsung juggernaut will be the new iPhone 5.

The Samsung Galaxy S III for Verizon is on sale now starting at 149.99.

Now that Apple has finally unveiled it’s the iPhone 5, we would like to see how the Samsung flagship stacks up against the sixth iteration of the handset that many claim ushered in the smartphone revolution. First we look at the display of both devices. The biggest change in the iPhone 5 from its predecessors is its bigger screen real estate. It now comes with a 4.0-inch IPS LCD panel but even that is easily dwarfed by the Galaxy S III’s massive 4.8-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel. However, nobody really gets to get the better of the other here and we are calling it a draw because some will favor the display Apple’s LCD panel while others will root for the S III’s SuperAMOLED display.

Next, we look at the internals of the two smartphones. In terms of processor and RAM, the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III is a beast and could easily shame an entry-level computer from a couple of years ago in terms of processing power. Apple on the other hand doesn’t care much for too much processing power – it just puts in enough power under the hood to ensure that the iPhone will perform as advertised. We hold off on passing judgment here since the complete specs sheet of the new iPhone isn’t available yet.

As for storage capacity, the iPhone will be available in a 64GB version while the Galaxy S III tops off at 3GB. The Samsung superphone however allows for memory expansion but with the iPhone, you’re limited to the amount of storage space that comes with the device so we give this round to the Galaxy S III. In terms of shooting department, the hardware of both handsets are comparable to each other and nobody gets a clear edge here so it is a draw again.

This little comparison however is just to let you know as to what one has that the other does not and vice versa. We can argue over every little point in the specs sheet of the both handsets but at the end of the day, the handset you are most happy with , whether it be an iPhone 5 or a Samsung Galaxy S III, will be the clear winner in your book.

Buy the Samsung Galaxy S III for Verizon now starting at 149.99.
