Ever since the Google Nexus Prime or Nexus 3, as it’s called, was confirmed by the company to be the first of the handsets based on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich at its I/O event, there have been plenty of rumors regarding the device. However, an actual picture of the phone or its features and specs sheet is yet to be revealed by the internet search giant.

It is expected that the phone will be released just before the holiday season this year, as its predecessor was released last year; however who will make the device isn’t certain at the moment. Even as the complete list of hardware specifications is not yet known, it is rumored that a TI OMAP4 processor will power the Nexus Prime.

An image which various events related to Android will use during fall this year has been released by Texas Instruments. This has led many to believe that Google is eyeing the processors from TI which may also become the preferred CPUs of Google for their upcoming devices, including the Nexus 3. However, these claims are only deductions right now as no official statement has been released by Google.

Even as Google has decided to advertise the use of TI OMAP4 processors in the Ice Cream Sandwich based phones in the future, this doesn’t mean that the Snapdragon CPUs from Qualcomm, or any other mobile CPUs, will not be supported in the future Android smartphones and tablets. In the meanwhile, people are waiting anxiously to find which processor Google will use for the Nexus 3.

The current line of the Nexus smartphone range, the Nexus S and the Nexus One, are powered by a 1GHz custom Hummingbird and Qualcomm’s 1GHz Scorpion processor respectively. However, this has never affected the decisions of the other manufacturers of Android based phones to use whichever CPUs they see fitting their designs for the Android handsets they manufacture.

On the other hand, as Motorola has always been the Android manufacturer to work most closely with TI CPUs when creating its own Android phones, such as the upcoming Droid Bionic phone which will feature a TI OMAP4 CPU, many analysts suggest that Motorola might be the most likely candidate for making the Nexus 3 smartphone. Other favorites in the race for manufacturing the Nexus Prime are companies such as LG, Samsung and HTC.
