kitkatEven though Google had yet to start sending out the new version of the Android software, it has been rumored that the devices that are going to be updated include the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 from Samsung.  The update might not come this month like it will for Nexus branded devices, but it will be sooner than later, at least according to the rumor.  Last month, Google took to the stage and announced the new version as the Android 4.4 KitKat update, instead of the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update that everyone was expecting.

The Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Black is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $9.99.

The biggest surprise was the Google partnered up with Nestle to “co-brand” the Android update and that has been a topic of curiosity in recent weeks.  When the KitKat update was revealed it was also mentioned that there would be some sort of contest, but neither company added any information beyond that.  Almost as soon as Google made the announcement, leaked information and images started to flood the web reportedly showing off the new Nexus 5 device that is reportedly going to arrive with the new software pre-installed.  The update is rumored to not be that much different from the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software.

Up until the leaked information regarding the two handsets from Samsung, the only places that the software was showing up was in developer and bug logs.  Other handsets that are currently on the market rumored to be getting updated include the HTC One X and HTC One X+.  Pantech also confirmed that it would be adding the Vega Iron to the list of Android 4.4 KitKat updates.  The rumors about the Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy S3 started from the XDA Developers forum when one user posted a long statement.

In the statement, the user named dxxh, said “The rollout of Kitkat is to extend the regional lock to existing SGS3s and Note 2s – I asked if my existing unlocked SGS3 bought unlocked over a year ago is to be subject to the same regional lock if I upgrade. Yes according to rep. So I would not be able to use a SIM from outside the European region in it when travelling? Yes according to the rep.”  Samsung has not confirmed this information as of yet and probably won’t until the software is official.

The Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Black can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $9.99.
