The HTC Thunderbolt 4G Android smartphone was the first phone to launch on Verizon’s 4G LTE mobile broadband network in March of this year. Aside from owning that “first ever”designation, after all the crowing Verizon did about how fast their 4G LTE network was, an independent test was run by PCWorld, and the Thunderbolt teamed up with the Verizon 4G LTE mobile broadband platform to produce the fastest upload and download speeds ever recorded on a mobile handset.

While the HTC  Thunderbolt has slowed down a little since other phones have joined it on the Verizon 4G LTE mobile platform, it can’t run free anymore, it still owns some of the fastest speeds in the mobile marketplace. The HTC  Thunderbolt was also the first phone to receive a one penny retail price  at select Verizon authorized retailers for a two-year activation on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Verizon claims that their LTE 4G wireless system provides speeds up to 10 times faster than their dependable 3G network. Recently a Droid smartphone landed another first on the Verizon LTE.

The Motorola Droid Bionic 4G Android smartphone is the fifth phone to be released on Verizon’s 4G LTE network, but has the powerful designation of being the first phone with a dual core processor on that network. Basically, a dual core processor can handle twice the number of operations in the same amount of time as a single core, meaning it works twice as fast. The HTC  Thunderbolt that set the mobile handset speed records is a single core device. The Motorola Droid  Bionic can also convert into a laptop when it is ported into the optional Motorola Lapdock, which provides an 11.5 inch laptop screen and keyboard.

And Motorola teamed up with Verizon earlier this year for another first, as the Motorola Droid 3 Android handset became the first phone on Verizon with the ability to record video in 1080 pixels High Definition resolution, via their rear facing 8 megapixel camera. The Droid  3 also was one of the first Motorola Verizon handsets to offer a dual core chip, the 1 GHz Texas Instruments OMAP processor.

And not to be left out, the Samsung Droid Charge was the first “Droid” handset to arrive on the Verizon 4G LTE wireless platform. When it was released, it was one of the most powerful handsets ever designed, and is still one of the better performing and most popular handsets that Motorola has ever coupled up with Verizon to offer. The Samsung Droid  Charge has a large 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display and 1.0 GHz Hummingbird processor.
