The brand-new slim and light smartphone totally does away with the former physical QWERTY keyboard iconic to the BlackBerry brand, and is a totally touchscreen driven device. Early sales figures since launch have been good, and recently CNN announced they were releasing a news application for the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone and BlackBerry 10 operating system. The BlackBerry Z10 also recently underwent an upgrade to OS 10.0.10.648, remedying a security problem which was announced earlier this week.

The CNN news application is also available on BlackBerry Q10 smartphones, and delivers all of CNN’s news content. The different features the application delivers are breaking news updates and the ability to follow developing stories, and the capability to view video clips and live events as they unfold. Politics, technology, entertainment, international and United States news topics are all covered. And you can even contribute your own opinion on a news piece, or even your own news story, through CNN iReport, which allows you to add photos and video uploaded directly through the application.

The young BlackBerry 10 operating system already has more than 120,000 applications available in the BlackBerry App World, and the Z10 is currently available for around $49 with a standard two-year contract through select online retail outlets. Replacing the physical QWERTY keyboard which made BlackBerries so distinct for so many years, is a touchscreen the company calls simply enough BlackBerry Keyboard.

The new touchscreen keyboard has built-in intelligence that learns more about your writing style every time you use it. It will even suggest words to help you type more efficiently and accurately, and there are multiple optional keyboard applications available in the BlackBerry app store. The camera built into the back of the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone offers a unique Time Shift mode, which actually takes a snapshot by first capturing an extremely short video just milliseconds before and after your photograph.

This allows you to preview and edit, choosing the exact time in which your subject provides the perfect snapshot. And you can even select the best expressions and poses from one part of the video, the best background and lighting from another part, and combine them to make a perfect picture. The camera on board is an 8.0 megapixel model, recording video in 1,080P HD resolution. The screen runs 4.2 inches, delivering a resolution of 768 x 1,280 pixels. A dual core 1.5 GHz CPU powers the handset, with a full 2.0 GB of RAM memory, 16 GB of onboard storage and a microSD slot also present.
