galaxynoteBack in the day, smartphones with a 4.3-inch display were already considered massive. Well, you can only imagine the shock of our smartphone-crazed brethren when Samsung unveiled its first generation phablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note, which came with a massive 5.3 inches of screen real estate. At that time, there were a lot of naysayers that doubted the capability of the handset to make it big in the smartphone market, no pun intended. After all, the smartphone-buying population was still smarting with the ill-fated Dell Streak 5 which was hampered with an identity crisis that got it confused whether it was an oversized smartphone or an undersized tablet.

The Samsung Galaxy Note for ATT is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $74.99.

This was the initial reaction received by the Samsung Galaxy Note but after people realized the advantages brought to the table by its humongous display and the fact that the components it packed under its hood rivaled those found in high-end devices, the original Samsung phablet instantly became a hit in the smartphone market. It even made it to US shores courtesy of AT&T despite initial reports that the Korean electronics giant wouldn’t bring it to our side of the world. Once it hit the shelves of the wireless carrier, the Samsung Galaxy Note became one of the top-selling devices over at AT&T – a testament to the growing popularity of the phablet.

However, despite the seeming power it packs under the hood and the impressive capabilities it brings to the table, there are still those who are not content with the stock Andriod experience overlaid with ToucWIZ UI, Samsung’s custom user interface that came with the Samsung Galaxy Note. After all, this is what the Android ecosystem is all about – personalization and customization of your device.

And now, those still holding on to their AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note phablets, you now have the option of personalizing and customizing your device even more because the CyanogenMod Team has finally released the CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly Build for the device. All you need to do is to have this flashed onto your handset and you will instantly bring closer to a stock Android experience which also comes with all the enhancements, features and options associated with CM10.1. Be reminded however that tinkering with your handset will surely void your warranty, or worse, brick your Samsung Galaxy Note so be very careful every step of the way.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Note, the first generation Samsung phablet relies on its QualComm MSM8660 SnapDragon chipset to power its operation. This SoC gives the device a dual-core 1.5 Ghz Scorpion processor and a full gigabyte of RAM for a snappy and lag-free performance while its storage capacity is rated at 16GB. Should this fall short of your expectations, the handset also comes with a dedicated microSD card slot for memory expansion purposes. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Note sports a massive 5.3-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a 1280 x 800 resolution while its dual-shooter configuration includes a rear 8MP shooter and a front 2MP video call and self-portrait snapper.

You can purchase the original Galaxy Note for ATT at a discounted price tag now starting at $74.99.
