motoxJust days after the Verizon Motorola Moto X 4G in North America began receiving an over the air transfer to the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, AT&T has jumped on the KitKat bandwagon as well. AT&T Moto X 4G smartphones in the United States have been receiving an update to Android’s operating system version 4.4, and since T-Mobile has received that update also, this only leaves Sprint Moto X smartphones without the tastefully titled and crunchily monikered KitKat update.

Android 4.4 KitKat is the most recent update to the Android platform to be rolled out across multiple mobile devices and smartphones, including reworked status and navigation bars, and a new full-screen mode. Closed-captioned support has been updated and improved, and Motorola Mobility designers have included substantial security upgrades in this over the air update. While the Moto X already includes power saving applications like Active Notifications and battery-friendly light and proximity sensors, smarter and more efficient power use is also present on this operating system update.

Also, for all you developers out there, the open source Google operating system this time around includes multiple tools and better capabilities for application development. AT&T Motorola Moto X owners can also expect an improved phone dialer, which allows you to find contacts directly from your dial pad. You can also check frequent contacts quickly, and a simpler corporate directory has been included. On the back of the Motorola Moto X is a 10.0 megapixel Quick Capture camera, and that main snapper received a software boost in the areas of focus and exposure.

The touch to focus option on that camera has also been upgraded, allowing you to drag a circular on-screen control with your finger across the viewfinder, instantly improving or downgrading your focus and exposure. Every smartphone has a gallery option, and photo editing options have been improved upon in this KitKat 4.4 Android gallery update. You can now customize more efficiently with advanced cropping techniques, adjust color better, and also tweak exposure, contrast and other snapshot features. This new update also includes the ability to draw on your photos and use preloaded filter effects.

Google Hangouts now offer support for integrated SMS/MMS messaging, and the popular Touchless Control feature offered by the Moto X now includes a handy new “Find My Phone” command. Simply say, “OK, Google Now – find my phone” and your Moto X will emit a loud ringing sound to remind you where you left it. For the business minded AT&T Moto X 4G smartphone owner, support has been added for the Square credit card reader. The AT&T Moto X has been a popular seller for that wireless carrier, and was recently spotted at the Amazon Wireless store online during that company’s Holiday Sales Event bearing a reduced on contract price tag.
