Verizon may still be the top dog in the LTE competition in US shores with the width and breadth of its network but AT&T is trying its mighty best to catch up with the league leader. AT&T is now continuing its expansionist policy of lighting up its LTE network in more markets and has now added Jackson, Mississippi to its list of covered areas. As of press time, AT&T already has some 75 markets covered with its LTE goodness and is in the process of rolling out some more to keep pace with Verizon who had a year-long head start in the 4G LTE race in our side of the world.

The Samsung Galaxy S Ii Skyrocket is on sale now starting at 49.99.

The lighting up of its LTE network in Jackson, Mississippi was announced by AT&T via a press statement where it was confirmed that the Jackson metropolis along with parts of Hinds County could now take advantage of all the benefits brought to the table by the carrier’s LTE coverage. With this development, AT&T subscribers rocking an LTE-capable smartphone such as the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket in and around the areas mentioned above can now experience mobile internet speeds of up to 10 times faster than conventional 3G. In addition to that, these subscribers can also expect faster response times and lower latency which is set to improve services such as mobile gaming and video calling.

Because of this, Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket users in the Jackson, Mississipi areas are sure to be excited in finally getting a taste of AT&T LTE goodness in their smartphones. After all, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is one of the best LTE –capable devices to be added on to the LTE lineup of the carrier. In fact, it was the one of the first LTE-supporting “true 4G” device launched by AT&T back in November of 2011 alongside the HTC Vivid 4G.

With the addition of the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G to its lineup, AT&T finally had a true 4G handset that its users can make use of in experiencing blazing fast mobile internet speeds courtesy of its network. Being a true 4G handset, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G was no match to the hopelessly underpowered 3G and HSPA+ handsets being marketed by AT&T as 4G devices in the past.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G relies on its QualComm MSM8260 SnapDragon chipset to power its operations while the computing power required by the handset is generated by the combination of its dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor and full gigabyte of RAM. Storage space on the handset is pegged at 16GB but this can still be expanded using the microSD card slot in its chassis. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G sports a 4.5-inch SuperAMOLED Plus panel with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels while its camera department boasts of a main 8MP shooter at its back panel while its front panel houses the handset’s 2MP front-facer.
