According to a recent survey, the growing popularity of the iPhone and the iPad is especially predominant among teenagers. A survey of 7700 teens showed that 40% owned an iPhone, which is up from 23% during the same period last year. The survey is conducted twice every year by Piper Jaffray, an analysis firm. The fall results were also up 6% from the spring results of this year. The firm believes that the increasing sales despite no new product launches show the power of the iPhone among the younger market and the brand’s staying power.

The iPhone looks like it will become more popular among teens as 62% of those surveyed said that they would purchase an iPhone next. The second most popular phones were Android phones as 22% said they would purchase one next. Coming to the iPads, 44% of teens own a version of the tablet; again, this number is up from 29% last year. Among those who own the tablets, 72% own an iPad and 75% said they would be buying a tablet soon and that it would also be an iPad. With iPad sales looking to grow, it might be the right time for Apple to release the rumored iPad Mini. However, a report from The Guardian has stated that the smaller version of the popular tablet will be released only in a Wi-Fi avatar. The Guardian also said that the bestselling iPad would come in a revised version featuring the reversible Lightning Dock Connector and run on the 4G LTE network that is to be launched by Everything Everywhere (EE) soon. The report comes amid rumors of the release at an event later next week.

Though Apple declined to comment about the possibility of the new tablet, images showing the smaller version next to the larger one have already surfaced on the internet. The iPad Mini, along with being smaller is expected to be more affordable and will possibly compete with tablets to the tune of the Nexus 7 from Google and the Kindle Fire from Amazon. By removing a cellular connection, Apple will lower its production costs but it won’t lose customers to the competition as both the Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire lack 3G or 4G connectivity.
