motoxThe Moto X came into the marketplace and really shook things up with its customizable options and very low price tag, even for an unlocked device.  Soon after it was announced, it started to show up on major mobile carriers in the United States and now that it has spread all over the country, users are waiting for the Android 4.4 KitKat software update that was promised.  For the most part, those on the T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon Wireless network the update was coming faster than others.

Sprint and US Cellular might not be the largest mobile carriers in the United States, but the device is for sale there and users would like to see the update sooner than later.  That changed this week when Sprint announced that it would be getting the Android 4.4 software out to users right away.  The Moto X started getting the software update just two weeks after Google announced it, which is unusually fast considering the device is not really considered a “Nexus” product.  The Nexus 4 was expected to be updated first, but the Moto X beat them to the punch.

The update arrived first on the Verizon Wireless network and shortly after that hit AT&T and T-Mobile rather quickly.  Just like all of the other updates, the one for the Sprint network will be a gradual one so the company can test and make sure there are no issues before rolling it out to the masses.  Android 4.4 KitKat will bring a few new design features to the software including white font on the notification bar and a couple of changes to main icons.  For Moto X users, the update brought improved camera performance and better touchless controls.

The software will also bring an improved phone dialer with Google Search built into it.  The feature is nice if you are looking for a number of a nearby store.  Simply typing in the name of the store will bring a list of results based on your location and from there you can choose the one you need to place the call.  Google Hangouts has replaced the Google Talk messaging application as well and is marked as the default app.  If you are going to want to use another application for messaging, you will have to disable the Google Hangouts application.
