htconeThe firmware update that the HTC One 4G Android smartphone received last week was a 230 MB package. And it now appears that update was paving the way for Jelly Bean 4.2.2, which the Taiwan-based manufacturer seems to be rolling out to its flagship smartphone this month. The most recent firmware update, version 1.29.401.12, prepares the handset for version 2.x when the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean upgrade appears at the end of this month, according to GottaBeMobile.

The HTC One 4G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $49.99.

One major change in the interface from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 is button removal. On the current HTC One Android operating system, a virtual button is located at the lower end of the display. This back button allows you to re-enter the Menu window, and the Jelly Bean upgrade coming later this month will remove that necessity. Unconfirmed rumors are that the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One will also give handset owners the ability to integrate BlinkFeed, Facebook, Flickr, LinkedIn, Twitter, calendar and other applications.

The current TV remote control application of the handset will also be improved, and a new Quick Settings menu will appear in the Notification Area. This will allow you much quicker access in case you want to turn on/off NFC, WiFi, 4G, Bluetooth, set display brightness and perform other settings customizations. The HTC One provides one of the largest and highest resolution displays found on any mobile handset, and its multimedia suite includes a pre-installed YouTube video player, a built-in music player and Stereo FM radio with RDS.

Dual front facing speakers pump out sound enhanced by the exclusive Beats Audio application, and the large 4.70 inch touchscreen delivers 16 million separate colors at the rate of 468 pixels per inch. That gives the handset an overall 1,080 x 1,920 pixel Full HD designation, and the phone is powered by a quad core 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600 processor. 32 GB of storage joins 2.0 GB of RAM memory in the hardware package, and video is recorded at the rate of 1,080P HD resolution with the rear facing 2.0 UltraPixel camcorder.

The HTC One 4G can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.

  1. Will this be on the unlocked version, carrier version, or both? Just curious.

  2. You have the One’s specs listed inccorectly, the “UltraPixel” camera is 4MP, or “ultrapixels”. :)

Also, by the menu button, do you mean that users will be able to long-press the back button to access what was previously a virtual button-press?
