With Google officially unveiling Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest Android version, manufacturers will start revisiting their schedules to provide time and resources for the development of the update that will get the handsets in their respective stables upgraded to Jelly Bean. However, we still have a long way to go before we start seeing Jelly Bean officially rolled out to the capable handsets in the Android ecosystem at the moment. A couple of days ago, it was reported that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was the first handset to get an unofficial piece of Jelly Bean when Tgascoigne, a fellow from XDA-developers, managed to come up with a JB ROM for the handset. Sad to say, the ROM is still in the early stages of its development and as to be expected, a lot of things are still not functional at this point in time.

However, the HTC One X has no plans of getting left behind in the Jelly Bean party. As such, Tgascoigne of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean ROM fame also came up with a port of Jelly Bean for the HTC flagship device. According to him, the ROM is based on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus ROM released a couple of days ago and the core system of the One X is expected to work with little to no crashes at all.

As to be expected with unofficial builds such as these, there are also a couple of things that are not working yet and these are Wi-Fi connectivity on the One X, its audio and radio are also not working just like its camera application. And in the latest update released by Tgascoigne, the JB ROM for the One X is now based from the Nexus 7 Tegra ROM and because of this, things are a whole lot smoother now and crashes are kept to a bare minimum. In addition to that, the Wi-Fi firmware has already been loaded and the developer is expecting to get it working any day now.

As for the One X, this handset has the distinction of being the first smartphone in the world to pack a quad-core processor under the hood. The version of the handset that made it to US shores is only a dual-core beast though with its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset giving the smartphone a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 1 GB of RAM. The storage space of the handset comes up to just 16GB and it doesn’t have the option to get expanded. The display of the One X on the other hand is a 4.7-inch SuperIPS LCD2 panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its impressive camera department outfits the smartphone with a rear-facing 8MP shooter and a 1.3MP front snapper.  Buy the HTC One X starting at $119.
