With Android’s operating system version 4.0, tastefully nicknamed Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), the most built in storage of any 4G smartphone, Near Field Communication (NFC) support built in and offering an optional white handset as opposed to competitor’s traditional black models, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G handset delivers features and options unmatched by virtually all similar handsets. And employing battery saving software applications like a proximity sensor that powers down the handset after periods of inactivity, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus delivers more than two times the average 4G battery charge, at 17.66 hours.

And all these features are offered while delivering a handset that is not too heavy, super small, or super large. The device measures 5.33 x 2.67 x 0.35 inches (135.5 x 67.94 x 8.94 mm) and weighs 4.76 ounces (135 g), both mid-range number sets for a 4G smartphone. The display is well above average however, and at 4.65 inches is one of the largest of all smartphones. That Super AMOLED screen delivers visuals in 16 million unique colors and a pixel density of 316 pixels per inch, at the high end of the 4G spectrum. That results in an overall screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, and that display is protected by a scratch resistant layer of treatment.

Samsung has included a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip set in the hardware package on board, and that includes a 1.2 GHz dual core Cortex A9 central processor and PowerVR SGX540 graphics dedicated chip. 1.0 GB of RAM memory has been pre-installed, and as mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus delivers 32 GB of built-in storage, the most of any 4G smartphone. A 5.0 megapixel camcorder (rear) comes equipped with an LED flash and F2.8 aperture, autofocus, white balance, digital zoom, panorama and Geo tagging features. Accompanying that rear mounted snapper in the camera combo is a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam.

For web surfers, popular online destinations Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter have been preloaded, and Google integration includes Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, and Google Talk. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless access options are available, and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus acts as a mobile hotspot for multiple devices on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE wireless broadband network, where it retails for $99 at select Verizon authorized retailers with a standard two-year activation and data plan. Messaging options are provided through SMS, MMS, email, push mail, IM and RSS technologies, and the full web browser on board supports both HTML and Adobe Flash.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G starting at $99.
