Black Friday in the US is the busiest retail shopping day of the year, characterized by waiting in long lines at physical retail outlets, cold winter weather and extremely limited quantities on sale priced items. Many online retailers discount the smartphone offerings at their wireless online stores to combat brick-and-mortar retail stores, and also to give smartphone shoppers a chance at purchasing their favorite mobile handset at a great price, while allowing them to do it comfortably from their favorite PC.
The Verizon Galaxy S III is offered in both 16 GB and 32 GB models by Amazon, for around $59.99 and $129.99 on contract respectively. That handset is holiday season priced so online shoppers do not have to wait until Black Friday to make a purchase, and the price continues through Black Friday as well. The Verizon Galaxy S III delivers the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system out-of-the-box, with Verizon currently working on an upgrade to the Jelly Bean 4.1 OS which should release by the end of the year.
The Samsung TouchWiz UX UI Android overlay is present, accepting multitouch, capacitive gestures, and at 0.34 inches thick (8.6 mm) and only 4.70 ounces (133 g), the handset is slim and light compared to other 4G smartphones. The thin and lightweight body design belies one of the largest smartphone displays at 4.80 inches, which delivers 16 million colors in a pixel density of 306 pixels per inch. That gives the display on the Verizon Galaxy S III one of the highest resolutions of any smartphone at 720 x 1,280 pixels.
The Super AMOLED screen contains a built-in proximity and light sensors to help provide battery conservation, and that allows for a full 15.0 hours of talk time from a single battery charge. Standby power runs approximately 8.3 days, and the hardware package on board the Verizon Wireless Galaxy S III is anchored by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 microchip suite. A dual core 1.5 GHz central processor is present, as well as an Adreno 225 GPU.
Double the average 4G smartphone RAM system memory is present at 2.0 GB, and a microSD slot provides memory expansion support for external cards of up to 64 GB in size. The Verizon Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone also delivers a camera combo which includes a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, as well as a front facing 1.9 megapixel chat cam. The handset also offers NFC (Near Field Communications) support out-of-the-box, as well as a built-in music player and YouTube video player.
