The Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone was the first handset with the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system in the United States. Late last month, the Galaxy Nexus 4G updated the OS to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Improvements in speed and fluidity arrive with a brand-new user interface. Owners with the previous ICS operating system complained of lag or sluggishness when switching between home screens on some occasions. That infrequent problem has been cleared up with Jelly Bean 4.1.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Verizon is on sale now starting at 29.99.

Early Verizon Galaxy Nexus handset owners have reported that switching between home screens or tapping a widget delivers virtually instant results, and battery life has not suffered with the switch to the new OS. One of the most anticipated features of the new operating system is the new Google Now application. This new software is based on your search history and GPS location. Included are emergency alerts, sports scores and other updates based on the time, your location and your previous search tendencies. And the new expanded Notifications show you the first few lines of an e-mail and notifies you when you miss a call, allowing you to call or text back straight from the notification.

Jelly Bean also delivers a brand-new Google App Drawer in the center of your home screen that gives you instant access to your most popular features and applications. This feature allows you to keep your home screens clutter free. The browser in Jelly Bean for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G on Verizon is much faster than the previous Ice Cream Sandwich browser, and the new camera user interface is more intuitive, allowing you to navigate simply and take photos with standard pinch and slide gestures. There is also a voice to text dictation feature that you can even use off-line without Internet access.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G arrived on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network on December 15 of last year, and is slim at 0.37 inches (9.47 mm). With one of the largest displays on any smartphone at 4.65 inches, resolution is delivered at 720 x 1,280 pixels, at a high end rate of 316 pixels per inch. Talk time runs approximately 12.0 hours from a single charge, and the handset is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core Cortex A9 processor. 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board, and the 4G-best 32 GB of data storage are built-in. A rear facing 5.0 megapixel camcorder provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution.
