Verizon is talking about it and T-Mobile is doing it.  The company announced they would be getting rid of unlimited data plans last month and now they are talking about bringing shared family data plans.  You will be able to buy a batch of bytes and those bytes, whether MB or GB, will be shared with two or more phones on your plan.  T-Mobile has announced they will be offering data plans in 200MB, 2GB, 5GB and 10GB plans, which come with unlimited text and talk, too.  The plans by T-Mobile will take a shot at AT&T plans that give out data, but require users to pay extra for unlimited talk and text.

When you compare what T-Mobile is offering to what AT&T is offering, you can save up to $50 per month with the shared plans than having to buy separate plans for each device.  Not to mention those AT&T plans are going to charge extra for talk, text and overage.  If you have more than one device, you might be able to get away with 2GB shared for both devices and never need more than that.  The 2GB plan is only $40 a month with T-Mobile.  The same plan from AT&T on two devices would be almost $50 more than that or more if you add talk and text.

According to some reports, the plans from T-Mobile would cost less per month, bring you 1,000, 2,000 or unlimited talk and shared texting for $20 more.  There are plenty of comparisons online since T-Mobile has announced the new plans on Monday of this week.  If you can pick a plan that keeps you under the cap, you are good to go, but if you are one that might get close to going over each month these plans are just for you.  T-Mobile has a built in safety net which will not charge overage fees.  Instead, T-Mobile drops you to a 2G connection and you will suffer, but you will not get charge overage fees.

The new T-Mobile plans are a breath of fresh air since companies have started to ditch the unlimited data plans that have been costing them millions of dollars each year.  Other companies are going that route, but T-Mobile is the first to officially announce the changes you can clearly see on their website.  As other carriers follow suit, the Smartphone plans might start to appear more reasonable for everyone.
