droidmaxxExaggerated versions of the phrase “What’s up?” were used effectively to sell tons of beer for Anheuser Busch from 1999 to 2002. Debuting at the Super Bowl, the marketing campaign was so popular, actors in those commercials actually landed a short-lived series built around the phrase. The popular greeting is used widely in North America between friends, and provides the recipient with free reign to discuss whatever is going on in his or her life. Now you can use Motorola’s Touchless Controls to ask your Droid MAXX smartphone “What’s Up?” (or alternately “Read Notifications”) and Google Now will read to you a list of your recent notifications.

The update to Motorola’s Touchless Controls application added a new hands-free feature that works something like this. Simply tell your Droid MAXX 4G, “Okay, Google Now.” The handset will power up if it is in standby mode, and then you simply ask, “What’s up?” Google Now then begins to recite your most recent notifications and activity, which is nice to receive first thing in the morning, after you have left a business meeting, or any other time after which you have been away from your handset’s notification feature for an extended period.

Technically, the application uses context-sensitive information to deliver a summary of all the things that need your attention, but the new natural flow is a pleasant surprise. Is it the most revolutionary development in smartphone technology? No, but some of the most popular and useful mobile phone features are not exactly groundbreaking. The application is also delivered to Motorola Droid Ultra and Droid Mini handsets, as well as the Moto X.

The Motorola Droid MAXX is a 4G smartphone running on Verizon which recently saw a substantial retail price reduction at the Amazon Wireless store online. The ability of Motorola, owned by Google, to make quick software updates of applications through the Google Play Store is one of the benefits of Big G purchasing Motorola Mobility. To access the fun and truly hands-free feature, grab the update in Google Play. But remember that you must have Android’s 4.4 KitKat operating system to successfully harness this new upgrade.

This feature supports Spanish, English and Italian, with more languages added in the near future. The Motorola Droid MAXX 4G has been a popular phone with industry analysts and customers, due to a large 720P display of 5.0 inches, the versatile X8 Mobile Computing System, 2.0 GB of RAM memory and a 10.0 megapixel ClearPixel camera. The Motorola Droid MAXX also offers fast mobile data support through Verizon, and an industry best 48.0 hours of battery life after a single charge.
