It has been well known for a few months now that Apple was going to be releasing a new version of the Apple TV, but there was never any further information regarding the device.  This week, a report showed up online that says that Apple could be finally getting ready to at least showcase the device, but might not be officially releasing it until later on this year.  The report comes from Bloomberg and notes that Apple will be reveal the new Apple TV very soon, but it will not be ready to sell until the holiday season.

The holiday season for Apple is usually very busy with iPhone and iPad sales, but this year, loyal Apple fans will have one more thing to consider putting under the tree.  Apple is reportedly in talks with other content providers like Time Warner Cable to bring more TV shows and other content to the popular TV device.  The new Apple TV has been rumored to be coming with a new, faster processor, a newly improved user interface that allows for easier navigation for users to get around menus to find movies and shows.

Rumors have been coming and going for a little while now that suggested that Apple would be talking with cable television providers with hopes of bringing more content to the already popular TV setup box.  The most interesting part of the press release comes in the fact that the company is not shipping until around the holiday shopping season.  It is not that typical to release a product so long before the actual shipping date, but if Apple wants to create some buzz during downtime, this is the way to do it.  Apple will usually talk about products within weeks of an official release, not months.

The fact that the company is ready to showcase the Apple TV makes one think that the company might be taking the rest of the time to button up some content deals that they have in place before the holiday season.  Other rumors that have popped up regarding the device included the possibility of gaming support and compatibility for MFi controllers.  It is not likely that Apple is looking to steal any gamers from the Playstation or Xbox consoles, but adding gaming features is not a bad thing at all when consumers are always expecting more.
