AT&T filed its proposed acquisition of T-Mobile USA with the Federal Communications Commission today, responding to its many critics. The overachieving imperative which is behind this transaction of the wireless carrier is demonstrated by this filing, which gives the customers of both AT&T and T-Mobile the network capacity which is required to enjoy the promise of the broadband revolution to its full potential.

Using the spectrum, sales and the other resources which this transaction will generate, the company after the merger will deploy Long Term Evolution, which is a premier next generation wireless broadband technology, for more than 97% of the population of the United States.

The Senior Executive Vice President and General Counsel of AT&T, Wayne Watts, said that the merger is an attempt at adding capacity to the existing voice and data services and improving them at the same time. Enormous benefit to the consumers will be provided by the immense new capabilities that are created by the synergies of this deal. The acquisition promises to establish a robust platform for the next generation mobile applications which are likely to be very bandwidth intensive, while at the same time it will improve the overall service quality to the customers via faster speeds in data transfer and fewer call drops.

The merger promises to create a multitude of jobs and investments while helping bridge the digital divide and helping achieve the rural broadband objectives of the administration, all of this without expending government funds. These are the reasons which have brought the deal unparalleled support from across the commercial and political landscape. This huge support base includes the governors of 17 states, minority and disability rights advocates, labor unions which represent over 20 million workers, venture capitalists, rural and environmental groups and a large number of the high-tech community’s device manufacturers, apps developers and equipment vendors.

Many companies such as Facebook, Avaya, Microsoft, Brocade, Qualcomm, Oracle and RIM are in support of this merger because the wide availability of LTE platform makes it a possible fuel for innovation, entrepreneurship and investment which is critical for US to maintain its leadership in the technology industries. Beyond this, the supporters believe that the transaction will use the available spectrum more efficiently, improve the quality of service and lead to the deployment of an expanded LTE network, which in turn effectively drives the cycle of job creation, technology development and economic growth.
