Many Android smartphone shoppers are wondering what the difference is between the Verizon Wireless Galaxy Nexus 4G handset and the one that recently popped up on the Sprint 4G wireless system. The two handsets are identical, with one slight but important variation. Carrying the same technical specifications, software and hardware, the two Galaxy Nexus 4G Android handsets both deliver Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system out-of-the-box, and they both benefit from a speedy processor and one of the highest resolution displays found on any smartphone. But the Sprint Galaxy Nexus delivers an important Near Field Communications (NFC) capable application out-of-the-box that is not present as a preload on the Verizon Galaxy Nexus device.

NFC enabled devices can wirelessly share information and other data, and perform a host of other wireless connectivity functions. Capitalizing on that Sprint Galaxy Nexus ability, the handset comes preloaded with the wireless payment processing application Google Wallet. Google Wallet allows you to program your favorite payment method into your handset, and then make wireless payments at NFC supporting retailers. And Amazon will even give you a free $10 Google Wallet credit if you purchase the Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4G through them and activate your Google Wallet account before the end of this year.

Other NFC applications are slated to hit the smartphone marketplace in the near future, and using those NFC enabled will always be fast and efficient thanks to the Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip package that powers the Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4G. That suite of chips includes a dual core 1.2 GHz central processor and graphics specific chip, and a full 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board. The handset delivers the most out-of-the-box, built-in, user accessible storage of any smartphone, at 32 GB.

The 5.0 megapixel camcorder on the back of the Sprint Galaxy Nexus provides video capture at a high resolution 1,080P HD and 30 frames per second, and is joined by a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam in the camera combo. Many popular Google applications have been preloaded, including Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail,
YouTube, Google Calendar, Google Talk and Picasa.
