htcone“About HTC One 4.2.2 I’d expect it in 2-3 weeks…,” tweeted @LlabTooFeR, the same HTC tipster that correctly predicted the HTC First with Facebook Home, as well as the the HTC M4 Mini. Past predictions in no way to guarantee this information is correct, but LlabTooFeR has been right on the money more often than not concerning the Korean smartphone manufacturer’s software updates. The Galaxy S4 is the number one competitor currently for the HTC One in the Android marketplace, and already ships with 4.2.2 pre-installed.

This would give the HTC One a level playing field against the popular Galaxy S4, and many analysts believe the HTC One has a better all-around feature, software and hardware package. The HTC One has been selling globally quicker than HTC predicted, and the company has now doubled production of the handset. Platinum certification by UL Environment labs means that the phone has received “green machine” certification as delivering a minimal impact on the environment through the life of the device.

The phone delivers the HTC Sense 5.0 user interface and arrives in a super slim format, measuring just 0.37 inches (9.3 mm). One of the most popular color choices is Stealth Black on the AT&T 4G LTE network, and the HTC One is sleek and stylish, produced in a premium, metal unibody form factor. The large 4.7 inch Super LCD 3 display guards against scratches and chips with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2, and offers the highest pixel density of any mobile handset at 468 pixels per inch.

Overall resolution runs 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, with more than 16 million separate colors used to render visuals. Battery power is roughly twice the industry average at 16.0 hours of talk time from a single charge, and the 2,300 mA cell can also provide 8.5 hours of video playback. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APQ8064T system chip powers the HTC One handset, which includes a quad core 1.7 GHz Snapdragon CPU. A generous 32 GB of storage are built-in, and 2.0 GB of RAM memory is also present.

The HTC One uses an advanced CMOS image sensor and ISP, coupled with a cutting edge optical lens system, and this allows the rear facing 2.1 Ultra Pixel camcorder to capture up to 300% more light than smartphone cameras offering 8 to 13 megapixels. Video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution, and simultaneous HD video and image capture support is present. A front facing chat cam is also on board, and the enhanced Beats Audio package boosts the sound signal through dual front facing speakers.

htcdroiddnaThe HTC Droid DNA 4G smartphone debuted on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the United States in November of last year. The handset packs one of the best all-around hardware and software packages of any 4G smartphone, and offers exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement from dedicated speaker and headset amplifiers. Presented in a slim, light but tough polycarbonate unibody with an ultra-matte finish and sleek red side grills, the Droid DNA 4G was recently lowered to its lowest on contract retail price since its launch.

At select online retailers the handset can be purchased for $19 on contract, and offers a powerful quad core processor, substantial RAM memory and one of the largest, highest resolution displays of any smartphone. The slim device measures just 0.38 inches (9.73 mm) in thickness, and weighs only 4.87 ounces (138 g), very lightweight for a handset with such extensive hardware and a large 5.0 inch screen. The multitouch, capacitive ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 smartphone display delivers one of the highest pixel densities of any mobile handset, at 441 pixels per inch

This gives the phone 1,080 x 1,920 pixel Full HD resolution overall, and the screen renders visuals in more than 16 million individual colors while protecting itself with a Gorilla Glass 2 layer of scratch resistance. A single charge of the 2,020 mA battery can deliver up to 12.6 hours of talk time, roughly 50% better than the industry average. Standby time runs 14.6 days approximately, and the powerful smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon quad core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz.

As part of the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 system-on-a-chip powering the handset, that CPU joins an Adreno 320 GPU, 2.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of built-in closet space in the handset’s hardware profile. The HTC Droid DNA 4G Android smartphone also offers a rear facing camcorder and front facing chat cam. The front 2.1 megapixel camcorder offers an extra-wide sensor, a feature usually only found on rear facing smartphone camcorders.

The rear camera offers an 8.0 megapixel sensor and continuous shooting mode that captures up to four shots per second, and the exclusive HTC VideoPic feature allows you to capture high-quality stills while simultaneously shooting HD video. Low light performance is excellent with the wide f/2.0 lens, built-in LED flash and backside illumination sensor (BSI), while the HTC ImageChip removes noise, balances color and keeps every shot in focus. Video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution, and an extensive customization package is on board.

Back in the day when Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC announced the HTC One in February, the OEM had intentions of releasing the handset in the shelves way ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S IV so that it could gain traction and get the needed momentum which in turn would lead to a strong showing in sales figures. Sad to say, the manufacturer was plagued with component shortages and supply issues that led to the initial release plans of the handset to be shelved and the launch of the HTC One itself to get pushed back.

However, it looks like the OEM has finally resolved the challenges it had in the past with these issues and is now ready to ramp up the production of its flagship device. With the component shortages now sorted out, the manufacturer is expecting its production capacity of the HTC One to double by the end of May and the increased production of the handset will continue throughout June as well to ensure that the company is able to meet the increasing demand for the handset. This much was confirmed by HTC North Asia president Jack Tong who said that “Our (HTC) capacity is expected to rise significantly starting from mid-May. We are optimistic about our high-end sales during April and June.

With HTC experiencing dismal results in terms of its financial revenue for the longest time, this could be the development the OEM is waiting for so it could turn the tables around and start climbing out of the financial hole it is currently in. And with the demand for the HTC One continuing to swell and the manufacturer being able to meet the demand with increased production of the handset, the OEM is hoping that this will result to a stronger set of financial numbers for the second quarter of 2013.

The HTC One is the current flagship device of the Taiwanese OEM and is actually the handset it is expecting to turn things around and make it more competitive in the smartphone market. With its status as a flagship device, it is only expected that the handset has an impressive resume not to mention the fact that it is fashioned from premium materials that not only give it a solid build quality but a classy and elegant look at the same time.

Under the hood, the HTC One runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean for its operating system and this is powered by the handset’s Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600 chipset. The handset on the other hand relies on its quad-core 1.7 GHz Krait 300 processor and 2GB of RAM to keep its performance always flawless. Though the HTC One doesn’t pack support for memory expansion, the handset does come with a very generous onboard storage and prospective buyers of the handset have the option of choosing between its 32GB or 64GB variant in terms of storage capacity. The HTC One also has a 4.7-inch Super LCD3 screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration boasts of a rear 4MP UltraPixel shooter and a front 2.1MP video call and self-portrait snapper.

The legal battle between Apple and Samsung seems to have no immediate end. Having gone through several stages of ups and downs for both parties, the tale is set to take another twist as the Cupertino based technology giant has decided to add the Samsung Galaxy S IV to the list of 22 devices that Apple believes were guilty of infringement by Samsung, with another imminent lawsuit in the making. Most of us remember the $1 billion fine slapped on Samsung by Judge Lucy Koh, which was later revoked on grounds that not all devices infringed the patents to the same extent and hence there was a miscalculation in the fine issued to Samsung. However, this accusation would not fall under the same case.

As of now Apple, has announced that it may drop one of those 22 gadgets infringing its patents and swap it with Samsung’s latest flagship phone. Apple claims that its experts have analysed the phone carefully and arrived at the conclusion that the S IV is indeed an infringing device. Apple now intends to move for leave to add the flagship device as one of the infringing products. Apple in a statement announced that it had made an appropriate filing in the court on Monday which was seen trending on social networks around the world.

In a scenario where the California district court which is overseeing the case decides to approve Apple’s request, the company would then remove one of the infringing products named in the hearing, implying that the litigation lawsuit would continue for a total of 22 devices. This extensive list includes devices from the Samsung Admire to the Galaxy S III, the Galaxy Note II and several other devices. Apple was specifically asked to identify individual Samsung products that infringed on its patents rather than an entire product line. As an example, the Galaxy Nexus, the Galaxy S II, the Galaxy S III have all been accused separately rather than a single entity.

Both sides have always been in argument over how many products can qualify as evidence in the case. For example, Apple argues that there is no basis for Samsung wanting to consider the same phone on different carriers as two different phones. Samsung however continues to stand by its statement, stating that a Nexus activated on Sprint and a Nexus activated on Verizon must be considered as two different phones.

droiddnaDespite having several bestselling handsets, smartphone manufacturer HTC has not been respected by Wall Street recently. In an attempt to become viable once again, HTC pulled out all the stops when they created their Droid DNA 4G Android smartphone. The handset delivers the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system with HTC Sense UI, the phone is powered by a powerful quad core CPU, delivers a generous amount of RAM memory and the exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement package.

But the first thing you notice about the slim and sleek Droid DNA 4G is the huge, high-resolution 5.0 inch touchscreen with Full HD designation. HTC stated point-blank that they were going after the Galaxy S III and iPhone 5 smartphones when they released the DNA 4G back in November of last year, and that large display delivers a resolution that is at least 33% higher than both of those devices. Also, at 5.0 inches, the Droid DNA 4G display narrowly beats out the Galaxy S III (4.80 inches), and easily bests the iPhone 5 (4.0 inches).

In both pixel density and resolution the handset turns in better numbers than the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III, offering an extremely high pixel density of 441 pixels per inch, with overall resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. 326 color pixels are located over each inch of display space on the iPhone 5, for an overall resolution of 640 x 1,136 pixels. And the Galaxy S III offers 306 pixels per inch, delivering a True HD display resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels on its capacitive, multitouch supported screen.

That is not to say that either the Galaxy S III or iPhone 5 smartphones are not crisp and clean, with excellent resolution. However, the display on board the Droid DNA 4G raises the bar significantly regarding resolution, and the seamless laminated screen helps eliminate reflection. The CPU mentioned above is a powerful Snapdragon 1.5 GHz quad core model, and the Droid DNA 4G integrates distinctive red side grills and an ultra-matte finish into a slim profile which measures just 0.38 inches (9.73 mm).

A layer of Gorilla Glass 2 scratch resistant glass protects against your everyday abuse, and talk time on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system runs as high as 12.6 hours from a single charge. The graphics processor is an Adreno 320 GPU, and a full 2.0 GB of RAM memory joins 16 GB of built-in storage space in the handset’s hardware package. The rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder delivers 1,080P HD resolution video recording and continuous shooting by holding down the shutter button, and is also capable of simultaneously capturing HD images and video.

lumia920b

Finnish smartphone manufacturer has just officially unveiled the Nokia Lumia 920 and the OEM has been thumping its chest and boasting on how good the camera of the said handset is and how advanced its features are. According to Nokia, the camera of the Lumia 925 is complemented by the new Nokia Smart Camera app that brings amazing effects, shooting modes and features to the handset’s shooting department.

But if you insist on sticking with your Nokia Lumia 920, the Windows Phone 8-powered handset released by AT&T in US shores, there is no need to get all envious on these new features the Nokia Lumia 925 brings to the table. Apparently, the Nokia Smart Camera App will not be exclusive to the Lumia 925 and will also make its way to the Nokia Lumia 920 in the near future.

It appears that Nokia will soon release the “Amber” update to the Nokia Lumia 920 via the usual OTA manner and can be expected to hit the airwaves by July. There has been no confirmation yet as to what exactly other goodies will this Amber update will bring in tow but according to our sources, this will include:

  • Smart Camera application
  • Enable FM radio on the Nokia Lumia 920
  • Camera to support up to ISO 3200
  • Enhanced color profile
  • Improvements to image quality
  • Less image noise

With that in mind, this Amber update is something that Nokia Lumia 920 users will be very looking forward to because of the improvements it brings to the handset for that matter. Details about the release of the update are very scarce at the moment but as soon as we hear more about it, we will let you know immediately.

Going back to the Nokia Lumia 920, the handset may already be aging a bit but it still has what it takes to be competitive in the smartphone market. The handset reached official status when it was unveiled back in September but it only managed to make its debut in the shelves a couple of months later in November. The handset has dimensions of 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7 mm and is rather hefty at its catch weight of 185 grams.

Under the hood, the Nokia Lumia 920 runs Windows Phone 8 for its operating system and this draws power from the handset’s QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset (which is incidentally the same chipset found in the internals of the Samsung Galaxy S III). This SoC gives the device a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a full gigabyte of RAM working together in ensuring that the performance of the handset is always snappy and buttery-smooth. The handset comes with 32GB of onboard storage while its display is a 4.8-inch IPS LCD panel with a 1280 x 768 resolution. It also has a very impressive camera department composed of a main 8MP rear shooter and a secondary 1.3MP front video call and self-portrait snapper.

iphone5officialWith some quick online research, we found that the typical TV commercial costs around $350,000 to produce. So it certainly makes sense that a company would want to save as much money as possible, while also shooting a high quality advertisement. Allied Irish Bank recently did just that, shooting an entire commercial on an iPhone 5. Irish ad agency Rothco created the ad, and their creative director, Damian Hanley, said that it was “a big decision” to use the iPhone 5 instead of the typical equipment that they have used in the past to produce commercials.

He went on to say that preliminary tests showed the iPhone 5 delivered “high-quality footage” and that Allied Irish Bank was extremely pleased with the result. There are dozens of music videos which have been recorded with the iPhone 5 and can be found online. But this is the first example we know of a major company staking their reputation on the recording quality of the iPhone 5′s 8.0 megapixel camcorder. That rear facing camera records video in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080P HD resolution) and at a rate of 30 frames per second, and can capture a 240 degree panorama shot.

Equipped with a built-in LED flash and back illuminated sensor (BSI), the iPhone 5 camcorder has an f/2.4 lens, high dynamic range mode (HDR), digital stabilization and simultaneous HD video and image capture. The handset’s camera combo also includes a front facing 1.2 megapixel chat cam. The iPhone 5 landed in the tech-hungry United States in September of last year, and is now offered by all major wireless carriers there. The Siri natural language feature with virtual personal assistant has returned from previous iPhone models.

This is the first iPhone to deliver a 4.0 inch display, and Apple has made the handset slimmer than previous versions. Apple also claims the iPhone 5 A6 chip is twice as powerful as the CPU on the iPhone 4S, and is also the first iPhone to deliver 4G LTE connectivity in America and around the globe. The iOS 6.1 operating system is on board, and the handset measures a skinny 0.30 inches (7.6 mm). Also extremely light at 3.95 ounces (112 g), the iPhone 5 is home to a 4.0 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD display. Resolution runs 640 x 1,136 pixels, delivered at the rate of 326 pixels per inch.

Up to 8.0 hours of talk time can be achieved from a single battery charge, and the dual core Apple Swift CPU has been clocked at 1.3 GHz. A triple core PowerVR SGX543MP3 graphics processor is also on board, as is 1.0 GB of RAM memory. The handset is offered in 16, 32 and 64 GB models, and delivers the Safari HTML mobile web browser for instant Internet access out-of-the-box.

iphone5verizonThe iPhone 5 is the first smartphone from Apple to deliver 4G LTE capability, for the United States and international markets as well. Which means it is a perfect fit for the 4G LTE network of Verizon in the United States. Verizon claims the largest US 4G LTE system with more than 440 markets and cities in the United States covered by their 4G LTE platform, and AT&T has the second most markets covered at over 100. Another first for the handset is the fact that it delivers a 4.0 inch screen for the first time on an iPhone.

The iPhone 5 on the Verizon network runs the iOS 6.1 operating system, and measures 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches (123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm). This makes it thinner and longer than the iPhone 4S, and the phone is lighter than the typical 4G smartphone at 3.95 ounces (112 g). The display mentioned above is a 4.0 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD model with 326 ppi pixel density, making for an overall resolution of 640 x 1,136 pixels. That display accepts the typical capacitive, multitouch gestures for navigation, and is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass.

You can expect up to 9.4 days of standby time and 8.0 hours of talk time from a full battery charge, and the new Apple A6 system chip is twice as powerful as the one that powers the iPhone 4S, according to Apple. The CPU is a dual core 1.3 GHz Apple Swift processor, and the graphics processor is a triple core PowerVR SGX543MP3 model. The iPhone 5 is offered in 16, 32 and 64 GB models, and delivers 1.0 GB of RAM system memory.

If there were any complaints about previous iPhones, it was that their camera combos were not as capable as those found on the competition’s handsets. Apple upped their game, and includes a high resolution 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the back of the iPhone 5. That rear snapper delivers excellent low light functionality with a built-in LED flash, back illuminated sensor (BSI) and f/2.4 lens. The iPhone 5 camcorder records video in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080P HD resolution), and at the rate of 30 frames per second, and is capable of simultaneous HD video and image capture.

The Apple iPhone 5 camcorder also offers autofocus and touch to focus, as well as digital image stabilization, an extra-wide 240 degree panorama mode, geo-tagging and a high dynamic range mode (HDR). The handset also delivers a front facing chat cam with video call capabilities, a built-in YouTube video player, and built-in music player. The iPhone 5 can operate as a mobile hotspot for multiple wireless devices, and Apple has included the Safari HTML mobile web browser for Internet access.

iphone5sprintSmartphone shoppers considering an iPhone have reason to celebrate thanks to a recent bold move by Sprint. The 4G LTE network in the United States is Sprint’s first, and the Apple iPhone 5 is the first 4G LTE capable smartphone from that manufacturer. The device has been selling well for Sprint ever since it arrived on September 21 of last year, and Sprint just recently deeply discounted the best-selling handset when you switch your carrier.

That price tag is only available from select retail outlets, and drops the iPhone 5 to bargain bin levels. Sprint recently announced that they sold 1.5 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2013, and a substantial price reduction should certainly do nothing but improve on those numbers. Apple accomplishes a lot of firsts with the iPhone 5, as it is also the first smartphone from the Cupertno-based manufacturer with a 4.0 inch display. The handset is slimmer than the iPhone 4S, and contains a chip that is twice as powerful as that found on the iPhone 4S as well.

Measuring a super skinny 0.30 inches (7.6 mm), the iPhone 5 is also lighter than the typical 4G smartphone, weighing just 3.95 ounces (112 g). Apple has included a Safari HTML mobile web browser for Internet access, and the iPhone 5 also offers a built-in YouTube video player and music player that filters by album title, artist name and play lists. The display mentioned above is a 4.0 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD model which delivers built-in light and proximity sensors, and accepts capacitive, multitouch gestures for navigation. A scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass layer is also present.

Resolution runs high for the iPhone 5, at 640 x 1,136 pixels. The handset also offers more than 16 million individual colors when rendering visual displays, and those color pixels are delivered at the rate of 326 over each inch of display space. The slim handset contains a 1,440 mA battery, and a full charge of that cell offers 8.0 hours of talk time and 9.4 days of standby power. Apple has also drastically improved their camera combo from the 4S and other previous iPhones, with the rear facing camcorder on the iPhone 4S possessing an 8.0 megapixel sensor.

That rear snapper is also capable of simultaneously capturing HD images while recording high resolution video and presents a host of customization features, such as autofocus, touch to focus, digital image stabilization and a built-in LED flash. The f/2.4 lens is supported by an extra-wide panorama mode which can record up to 240 degrees in a single shot. That camera records video in 1,080P HD resolution, and a chat cam is found on the front of the handset. The A6 system chip is built around a dual core 1.3 GHz Apple Swift processor, and the handset delivers 1.0 GB of RAM memory. The iPhone 5 is available in 16, 32 and 64 GB models.

galaxynote2mayOver the last few years we have heard of many smartphones being labeled “Facebook phones.” And just recently the HTC First 4G smartphone actually achieved what many believe to be the first ever true Facebook phone status by launching with the social networking Facebook Home application pre-installed. Facebook Home keeps you updated in real time with Facebook updates and other features delivered as full-screen alerts to your mobile device’s home screen.

Just this week the True HD Galaxy Note II was announced as the receiver of Facebook Home as well, downloadable through the Google Play store. With a near tablet size display, powerful quad core processor, and popular split screen feature, the Galaxy Note II recently received a retail price reduction at select online retailers ahead of the HTC One and Galaxy S4 smartphone releases. The Galaxy Note II has been a bestseller since it launched in October of last year on the tech-hungry United States market.

The multi-window feature allows you to split the Galaxy Note II screen into two equally sized displays, and then operate them independently, or integrate the two. The Galaxy Note II returns the native handwriting recognition technology that debuted alongside the smart stylus S Pen in the original Galaxy Note, and that stylus has been designed thicker and longer for a truer pen-like feel and experience. The Galaxy Note II was the first smartphone from Samsung to launch with the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system.

The 5.55 inch Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy Note II is the largest currently offered by a 4G smartphone/tablet, but even so the handset is slim at 0.37 inches (9.3 mm). Jelly Bean is integrated with the Samsung TouchWiz UI Android overlay, and the True HD display was designed in a 16 to 9 aspect ratio, commonly regarded as the standard for HD video viewing. Resolution runs 720 by 1,280 pixels overall, delivered at a rate of 265 pixels per inch. The oversized battery on board the handset is capable of up to 15.0 hours of talk time after a full charge.

The hardware package on board the Galaxy Note II includes an Exynos quad core 1.6 GHz processor, ARM Mali 400 MP4 quad core GPU, generous 2.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of built-in storage space. A microSD slot is also present for additional storage, and video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution with the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder. A VGA quality chat cam is also present, and popular online applications Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter have been pre-installed.
