Previously released at the beginning of 2011 under the Motorola tag line of “the world’s most powerful smartphone”, the Motorola Atrix 4G was one of a very few phones which offered versatility as well as smartphone functionality as one of its main characteristics. Motorola designed the Atrix  4G with a stronger and more powerful processor than the average 4G smartphone, so that when used with its optional laptop dock, entry-level notebook functionality would not suffer. Motorola also created a hands-free GPS dock for automobiles, and a high definition multimedia dock which offers multiple USB ports and an HDMI video out port.

Immediately released out of the gate with a three figure price tag on the 4G AT&T network, as well as what were described as retail prices that were too high for the versatile accessories offered, sales were not what Motorola and AT&T expected. AT&T has recently addressed that issue, and has dropped the price of the Motorola Atrix  4G to $24.99 with a two-year activation at specific AT&T authorized retailers, or $99 at AT&T’s stores and website.  Buy the Motorola Atrix 4G starting at $24.99 and get a $15 Amazon credit good towards Apps, Kindle content, and MP3 downloads.

The Motorola Atrix  4G, physically, appears as almost every other big screen Android handset. It is a black, rectangular slab, with the familiar four home, menu, search and back buttons below the display 4 inch capacitive touchscreen display. This display appears in 540 x 960 pixel resolution, and is navigated with multitouch gestures. A light sensor and a proximity sensor are also on board. The Motorola Atrix 4G is average in size and weight, at 4.64 x 2.50 x 0.43 inches (117.75 x 63.5 x 10.95 mm) and 4.76 oz (135 g).

A 3-D graphics hardware accelerator joins and Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core 1.0 GHz processing chip and 1.0 GB of RAM memory for full power on the Atrix 4G. Out of the box, Google’s Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system and full Adobe Flash player are supported, as well as HTML web browsing. A rear facing 5 megapixel video camera records in 720P high definition, and offers customization features such as white balance, special-effects, geo-tagging, autofocus and dual LED flash, and a front facing VGA quality camcorder delivers video chat and video call capability.

The Motorola Atrix 4G delivers all the options and features you would expect in a 4G handset, such as microSD slot for storage expansion up to 32 GB, microUSB port, video mirroring capabilities through DLNA and HDMI technology, and Bluetooth stereo and Wi-Fi b/g/n/ wireless access. Retail price drops on the Motorola Lapdock, HD Station and Vehicle Navigation Dock for GPS support vary by retailer.  Get more information on this all powerful AT&T smartphone with our detailed Motorola Atrix 4G Review.
