The Samsung Galaxy S III as of the moment is without a doubt one of the best (if not the best) smartphone, superphone if you will, available in the market today. Although it may not be the first quad-core powered smartphone in the world (the HTC One X has that distinction going back to the days when it was still known as the HTC Edge), the handset instantly ended the reign of the HTC One X in the smartphone competition when it was announced by Samsung back in the early parts of May.
The Samsung Galaxy S III is so eagerly awaited by the smartphone-buying public that Samsung announced that preorders for the handset have already hit the 9 million mark in just a couple of days after the handset was unveiled. This hotter than hot reception for the current Samsung flagship device is not a surprise considering the fact that it is even more capable than its predecessor. In fact, this overwhelming demand for the Samsung Galaxy S III has already led to delays in the launch of the handset in several territories.
Take the case of the Canadian version of the Samsung Galaxy S III for example. Almost all carriers north of the border releasing their respective versions of the handset will endure a 7-day delay in launching the Samsung Galaxy S III as confirmed by no less than Samsung Canada. The device, which should have hit Canadian shelves last June 20, can now be expected to make its debut on June 27 instead.
This seems to be the case in US shores as well. In fact, all major carriers releasing the Samsung Galaxy S III have already confirmed the delays the handset will be facing before it can get to the shelves. In fact, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint have all confirmed these delays and pointed to the inherent popularity of the device causing the overwhelming demand for the Samsung Galaxy S III as the culprit for the delays. The most heavily hit among the carriers would have to be Verizon though. The three carriers mentioned above have one way or the other have already launched their respective versions of the flagship device but Verizon is still trying to catch up so to speak.
A couple of days ago, it was reported that the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy S III will make its debut in the shelves of the wireless carrier on July 10. This very late release date has left Verizon as the only major carrier in US shores who hasn’t released the Samsung flagship device. And to further add to the frustration of Verizon subscribers waiting to get their hands on the handset, it was reported a couple of days later that the handset will now be available on July 11. The delay is just for a day, but a delay is still a delay.
And further adding insult to injury, the launch of the Verison Samsung Galaxy S III has been pushed back by another day… again! As it stands, the handset will now hit the shelves on July 12 if the info on the website of tech retailer HH Greg is to be believed. Hopefully, this is not to be the case as Verizon subscribers can no longer afford more delays in getting their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S III.
